Any thoughts on what the better deal is? Intended use is 2-3 hour drives to the mountains, off-road trails for camping, and a major West Coast road trip around Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, so lots of off-road possibilities there.

    - 2016 TRD Pro has 77K miles and price is $36.7K.
    - 2020 ORP has 9K miles and price is $42K.

I'm tempted to jump on the Pro as I rarely see them used and in good condition like this.

Hell I’d say buy new at that point, you’re in the range of new Off road and you will get better financing on a new vehicle than a used (in general), that savings narrows the gap even more.

Think the 2016 is over priced. The 2020 at that price, I would go new.

mid you like the pro, then try to get the price down. I personally would shoot for 32k on it.

I know prices vary by region, but those both seem overpriced to me.

As others have said, I'd say you should buy a new ORP.

A used 2020 for that much?? Pass

the only benefit is if it’s certified pre owned. That warranty is better than new vehicle warranty

Agree with everyone else here. Both seem overpriced and you should be able to get a brand new ORP for about the same price as that used one. I got 4500 off sticker last month on my new Limited.

To me, the Pro would be out of the question because it's got 77K miles on it. Yes these cars last a long time, but you're talking nearly the price of a brand new SR5.

So suggest finding a new ORP, or even an SR5, and upgrading it over time as your budget allows to give it a Pro type look and features.

I agree with other comments, both seem overpriced. I paid 37K for a brand new 2020 ORP, before Covid.

Listen... you're talking to a bunch of guys that don't have a TRD PRO. You won't regret getting a PRO. The upgrades, value and awesomeness can't be touched by an Off Road. You'll have regrets any time you see a PRO pass you by. Plus... anyone can buy an off road that will depreciate significantly..... and, those guys will all be jealous of you.

Except that this one is way overpriced for a 4 year old vehicle with 77K on it.

Exactly. I don’t think anyone here is discouraging him from getting a Pro, just from paying 36k for a 4 year old one with 77k miles.

Agree with most on here. There’s two 2020 new ORP on the lot here in town both at like $42,500 and that’s before trying to negotiate. As far as the Pro personally I feel if you like it and have the money go for it. I’ve had vehicles modified many times (mostly jeeps) and unless you’re doing it or a great friends I never trust people working on my trucks so I like buying something that has it all from the start and done. The new pro is overpriced but I have no regrets buying mine and I don’t think you would either. But the one you mentioned is def overpriced for 77k miles in my opinion. That 4Runner could have been through a lot and I wouldn’t touch it at that price.

Get a new Off-road as others have said.

LMAO! The only actual upgrades that a PRO has are shocks and tires. You're paying $10K extra for about $2-2.5K worth of upgrades. For that much money, you can get better shocks and tires, armor, and a winch and have an off-road that's way more badass than a PRO.

Every trim holds it's value extremely well, not just the PRO.

Again, PROs are cool, but a terrible value.

As far as value and resale I do think all trims hold their value very well but just look up used 4runners and you will see a Pro holds value way better than any. I’m not saying I agree but there’s a reason used ones with 15-20k miles are getting $45,000.

Agreed. That pro is overpriced. I got my 2020 ORP w/ KDSS in June for $41k (socal). The Pros are cool, but not worth the premium. Dealers here want like 5-10k over msrp. You can get any other model under msrp and spend the difference on any upgrades you want. All 4runners hold their value well and the resale on the pro is not much different, when you factor in the additional premium paid for it (especially if paid over msrp). Go with what makes you happy and enjoy it. Can’t go wrong with any model.

I think the big difference between a Pro and a ORP is KDSS. For some reason, they don’t put that on a Pro, which is a disadvantage, imho.

One point missing for me in this and one of the reasons I got a Pro is the roof rack. If I were to get a Pro I wouldn’t get one of the ones with just the rails. I forget which year they started the actual rack but that feature alone (if you like that style and it’s functional for you) is worth a lot of money. A roof rack that can hold a Mini Cooper and is bolted into the top of the vehicle and looks awesome is not cheap! I know the OP post was one that would have the rails which are nice too but I would agree over an ORP than one with just the rails.

Looks are in eye of beholder. Myself and many others pull them off because they are just plain ugly. Functionality? Another large percentage rip them off as they are not what many consider useful

No, I wouldn't. And no, I am not a liar.

The PRO isn't available with KDSS.

army green is kinda ugly on the 4runner (IMO)

Nobody cares how many PROs you have. I have a TRD off-road with way more goodies than a PRO and I still haven't hit PRO MSRP.

Again, PROs are cool. And, they're perfect for someone who just wants that specific look and doesn't plan on modifying anything.

But, an off-road can easily be built to outperform a PRO for less money. Nobody who knows anything will argue that fact.

There are better roof racks that can be bought aftermarket. And, you can buy the PRO rack from Yakima if you want.

    ^^^^this too!

I agree A&P. I honestly don’t use mine a lot but it is functional for what I need and want. Like everyone said get what you want and can afford. I think if you have the knowledge and ability (or friends) to take an ORP and make it what you want exactly then that’s the best VALUE! Just like Thatbassguy. That’s as nice of one as you’ll see and can perform all you want it to. One of my good friend took an ORP and built it up and spent a little less but the Pro upgrades are more than a couple thousand dollars. Don’t let anyone kid you. I just don’t have the time or the ability to do the work he has. But to drill a rack into the top of a vehicle not spec’d for that is not as easy as buying the rack and drilling holes. I’ll never discount that learning from racks on my jeeps. I wouldn’t trust Doing that and not expecting leaks within 2 - 3 years. I’ve seen it time and time again. But I think we can all agree to the OP both are overpriced and to keep looking and either trim IMO is a can’t lose if The price is right.

Most of the aftermarket racks attach to the factory mounting holes for the side rails.

I do agree that if the PRO suits your needs perfectly it's worth buying. It's just a waste if you're going to modify it.
