    Hi Adam, welcome!

First off..have you tried any local junk yards? I would start there. Maybe try ebay, craigslist, etc?

    Second,

If you do not have a locker in it you have 4:10 gears bud. Not the 4:30's Just FYI.

Know what, your right. I know nothing about 4Runners at all, I'm completely ignorant, I don't drive a 99 Limited every day-nope( 4Runners can't run 37in Tires,They can't run 32 in struts either, they don't have manual locking hubs, nor do they have duel lockers either, and all 4Runners have IFS under them) If you have a 4:30 with no diff locker this is the first I have ever heard. Do us a favor and post up a picture of the rear end that is in the truck.

It is not at all possible that this truck has ever had the rear end changed out nor that the parts on your truck do not match the VIN because I have never seen that either as I work in the automotive industry and order more car parts per day than most will ever see in ten years. I guess having 15 teeth means I know it all so this is normal for me. Because I have 15 teeth and I'm dumb about Runner have you checked the model number on the door sticker?

The limited in 99 had options with the rear end. With Locker and with out. If you do some research on this you already know that. Also remember this too-Toyota knows everything and they are never wrong either with parts especially with some parts guy behind the counter getting paid 8-9 buck an hour, that never happens right?????

If Toyota put in 4:30 with no locker then you have one rear beast of a truck, hell who knows it might have been built on a Thursday before a long weekend or holiday and they just said F it and hooked you up.

Do your self a favor and open your mind up and just maybe ask why we are telling you this before spouting off the all knowing Toyota and the VIN number because I promise you, you will learn the hard way.

I can think of one prime example of a car I worked on at work that the VIN said XYZ and the shit was WRONG! They finally gave in when I send them a photo of the OE part.

One other thought also. You might want to ask the guys on T4R.org also because they know way more than any of us around this place. I'll even get you the link. Blue

That is my some what daily drive in the picture. I was not trying to sound like a dick above but just cover your ass man. I just have not seen a limited with out a locker with 4:30's. The 4:30 were for the locker set up. The open rear ends are normally running 4:10's. Just double check man.

This is very strange.?.I have never heard of this either?? Did you buy it from a private party? If so, I'd call them and ask them if they changed the rear out or if they has some kind of story? Makes you wonder what gear ratio you have in the front?? Unless you've already test drove it in 4wd?

Either way...you still need a new rear end. Can't you just switch the 3rd member (or whole rear end) from your mechanics' 4Runner with the 4:10's into yours. Yes, I know you won't be able to use your 4wd...but you could have your 4Runner safey back on the road tomorrow! Then you can take your time and figure out what's the best thing to do (eg., rebuild your 3rd member, find junk yard rear end, etc....). Just a suggestion...

    Good luck Sir!
