Ridgeline is actually a great truck for what it does.

That's a Great Idea! You could deep fry a lot of fish, shrimp, and hush puppies in the bed of a Ridgeline. Just don't put too much oil in it, the unibody might buckle and ruin your party.

To compare snow driving I've owned many truck and SUVs, Toyota, Mercedes, Honda, Ford, Chevy, Nissan, Jeep and an AWD Lexus.
The 2 that are beyond awesome for handling in deep snow was the Ridgeline 06...not sure about new ones. Next was the Lexus only hindered by clearance but did not stop it.
Any vehicle stops like crap depends on tire in snow and ice but far as taking off and handling. In a bad snow storm I would pick a Ridgeline to drive. That said they look like shit now and I'll never buy another.

To be fair, the Ridgeline looks like a very good vehicle for its niche. And really maybe the only vehicle in that niche. If you want a pickup bed but don't need to haul or tow a lot, and you prefer something that drives more like a car than a truck (and gets car-like MPG) then it makes perfect sense. It's also been high on the list of cars likely to last over 200,000 miles. So a lot to like.

If maybe 50% of the 4R crowd are "Mall Crawlers" then I think probably 50% of Ram/F150/Silverado/Tundra owners would be better served in a Ridgeline type truck. It doesn't tow and doesn't wheel, but it does most things that most drivers need quite well. Its best comp may be a street-driven Taco.

Good points. For what it's worth, I didn't get my 4R to go off roading. Even when I was considering a TRD Off Road Premium, before settling on the Limited, I didn't expect I'd spend much time off road. So I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority on this forum. I got it because there's nothing else out there that checks all of the following boxes:

    1. Carries a lot of cargo and or people (I got the third row) without being ginormous. I like the Sequoia as well as the Tahoe/Suburban, but they wouldn't fit in my garage or feel as manageable on the road given the congestion in my part of the country. I'm actually thinking of moving to a rural area, but I still don't see me needing the extra size or wanting to tool around a big thing on back country roads.

    2. Can do real towing if needed

    3. Has great ground clearance for snow etc.

    4. Can do real off road duty if needed (especially with relatively simple upgrades)

    5. Has BOF toughness (plus skid plates, to the extent they actually help?)

    6. Has legendary reliability and durability

    7. Doesn't cost a fortune

I personally hate the mall :p But even for mall crawlers the 4R makes sense if the things above are priorities.

My boss went from a F-350 dually to a Ridgeline (older style), and he loves the change.

I owned a 2008 Ridgeline for about 10 years prior to owning my 5th Gen 4runner and I can't let anyone talk bad about that vehicle. It really was bulletproof with everything I used it for and it protected me and my family plenty of times while we had it. With that being said, I don't see myself buying another Ridgeline in the future is because I love my 4runner and I am not a fan of the new Ridgeline body style.

The Ridgeline tows enough for people to bring their families and camper for camping in the provincial parks. I am not talking about those behemoths with 3 bedrooms, 2 kitchen and pool on wheels, but regular seized campers seem to be doing just fine with a Ridgeline. I see a lot of them on the roads, I personally don't like the style and they are not exactly cheap here in Canada, but people seem to love them lately.

The 1g Ridgeline does require frequent differential fluid replacement, and that's annoying and probably $75 per visit, so there's a ding on it.
