    Hello y'all,
Hopefully I can get an honest answer.
I bought a 2000 4 runner with a new motor which now has about 70K. but that s not the issue. It lost coolant and when I took it in was told it was the radiator. So it was replaced. However within 45 days the vehicle overheated, checked the coolant and it was empty.
Recently had the oil changed, fluids checked and filled. Drove out of town 400 miles round trip, drove to work and came home and it overheated again only this time coolant went all over the under carriage.
Called the repair shop that put the radiator in and the man tells me it sounds like a head gasket.
    My question is this
    Do I fix it?
Do I try to sell it for like $1000-$1500 and get another vehicle?
btw: I do have an extended warranty which has been really good, it paid half the bill for the radiator, put me in a rental car and paid for the towing to the repair shop.

After about 20 years...nearly all cars are going to have issues. Every 2 months it's going to require something fixed if extensive preventive maintenance isn't done.

Coolant on the underside of a vehicle doesn't scream to me that it's a big issue. That's going to be a busted hose or the oil cooler gasket on the side of the engine. Both cheap.

Head gasket failure is where coolant could either mix with the oil in the engine...or...the hot exhaust gases from the combustion chambers will seep into the coolant causing overheating.

You had an oil change and didn't indicate any issues...so if there is a head gasket failure...it's going to be the overheating kind.

Overheating can blow out a weakened radiator...or hose.

I would at least get an estimate for the current repair. And also have them test for a failed head gasket. Then go from there.

I'm thinking this isn't the car for you for the long term.

I use my 4Runner as a daily driver. The only reason is that I sunk $2500 in parts into the car. So many hoses, seals, etc. I can do the work so I probably saved $4k in labor. I still need to replace a bunch for the evaporative system. That's another $600 just in parts. But that's what these cars NEED after 20 years to be daily drivers. Rubber and plastic wear out and degrade over time.

If the body is in good shape and it runs good, fix it. It's worth $6000+ fixed.
    4runners cost over $40,000 new today. https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/toyota/4runner

My 2005 SR5 V6 with 150,000 miles runs and starts like a new car. Tranny and engine never touched! Changed (5 quarts) D/F in tranny at dealer at 100,000 miles. 4runner trannys hold 13 quarts.
4 starters in 15 years. No overheats. no WP, alternator or radiator. Garaged. Paint like new - not faded. Slight rust on undercarriage. Ride still good. Good for another 10 years (with occasional AM starter for $100 - but brand new ones will eat up starters too).

    Reliable like all Toyotas.

4runners don't "fade" like GM products that rust away. Owned a GM Jimmy from new and a Caddi three years old. Jimmy rode like a chuck wagon after 10 years - and I even replaced the shocks and it rode worse!

Never anything but Toyota for me after these losers. No body rust in 15 years of ownership. Fools buy Ford and GM - even Hondas. Then the "cryin' game begins"!
