Off Road build for 3rd gen?

I need help with my 97 4runner. i bought it a few months back and now i want to make it an off road bad ass like no other but i don't know where to start. I know that the car is 4x4 and it does not have any special modifications. i would like to find the right rims, lift kit, light bar, brush grille, roof rack, and any other items i may need to buy. if someone could help me that would be awesome and please if you have any more info let me know. Thanks!

 

Thats a lot to ask, What is badass to you? What trails you hitting? Rock crawling? Mud? Sand? Back country? Mix?

 

I'm looking to be able to drive it in the desert and on trails. I'm just looking for some guidance cuz I'm new to off road. Any info helps like good brands to buy from or where to even find half of what I need. I'm looking but I look at reviews and half are good and half are bad.

 

Then just go with a simple set up, 3'' lift, 33''(will need trimming) or 32'' tires. Fox/Camberg/Icon/Procomp all good brands. Will get you started with out braking the bank

 

For ready to go suspension kits. Look into Toytec Lifts or Sonoran Steel.

I just got here myself but I can tell you from experience in other expensive hobbies - spend a lot of time reading as much information as you can find and then ask specific questions. You'll get much better results that way especially since this hobby has so many variables. Unless you have bottomless pockets it's always better to learn from the mistakes of others than pay to make your own.

 

Start with catching up on general maintenance.
