Just curious on how common this problem actually is. Search function lead me to believe that more often than not the dealer can’t figure it out or tells the customer to “just deal with it.”

This seems to be the only problem area with these vehicles if you even want to call it a problem. Spoke to RPM here in Socal (Toyota specialty shop) and they said they can easily swap out the rotors if I do happen to run into that problem.

    Just wondering:
    1. How many of you experienced this?
    2. Is your problem fixed?
    3. Did the dealer fix it or something you or a Toyota specialty shop fixed?

Could be warped rotors, or perhaps some accumulation of rust or brake dust that isn’t cleaning off with braking. The rust thing is fairly common if your 4Runner has been sitting for a while.

Either way, first thing I would do is check rotors; if it’s some accumulation, might be able to get away with carefully sanding them; but better solution would be to get them turned. Or worst case, new rotors and pads.

Warped rotors. Now you have to figure out why. Sticking caliper piston causing the pads to drag will cause that.
