    My daughter is buying a 1999 4Runner and in the test drive the pressure to engage the accelerator pedal seemed stiffer than usual. Is this normal?

    That's connected to the Throttle Body, right? You may need to look at that and disconnect the cable from the TB and manually turn the Throttle on the TB and see if it's binding. I can turn the throttle fairly easily but with moderate resistance with one hand.

    If that's not it...I would think something has broken to the pedal.
