Are shocks different for 2 WD vs 4 WD? Recently replaced mine and find a much stiffer ride than original, even from when vehicle was new.

I don't think so. You replaced yours with TOYOTA shocks? If you used any other brand, you're probably going to have a stiffer ride.

I have a 2002 4WD and replaced them front and back with shocks from Toyota (black with Orange stripe) and the ride tightened up a bit but not really any stiffer.
