    Hey all,

New to the forums looking for some much-needed help. Can anyone tell me what these two hoses are? No one at the local parts stores has a clue (and neither do I).

If you have all of your stock stuff in place, then they need to be there. The larger hose goes to the charcoal canister. The smaller hose is the return for the AC idle up system.

Are you sure that’s goes to the charcoal canister, I don’t think it does, I’m going to look at my truck now.

it’s part of the emissions system and goes the the back of the square filter deal, have no idea what it’s called.

We don't use ours because we eliminated that system so that is blocked off on ours. I am 95% sure it is part of the charcoal canister, but I am going off memory.

BTW, the smaller hose is the other end of your #6 line from your picture on your other thread.

Thanks very much for the replies. I'm trying to order new hoses as the originals are split. I'm having trouble identifying them because I don't know what they are called. Any tips? Thanks!

If you go to Toyota, give them your vin # and they can pull up schematics for your vehicle and you can find the hoses that way.

OK, the big hose is also part of the suck valve that goes to the reed valve on top of the engine. We eliminated ours when we put in headers so I wasn't sure.

Part of the egr system.. very basic description.. they take fresh air from the Air intake and injects it into the exhaust.. thus lowering your pollution output by “dilution” of your exhaust with fresh air..

The big one is to get filtered air from the OEM air box to the Air injection valve on the exhaust. The smaller is filtered air to the idle up for when the AC compressor kicks in and the plenum is provided with a controlled vacuum leak which increases the idle speed and thus the power to manage the AC compressors demand on the engine when at a stop light for instance. Those hoses need to be in good shape without any splits in them.

The exhaust air injection is not co "dilute" the exhaust. LOL
No, it is to provide additional oxygen so the Cat can do a complete burn. It also cools the exhaust a little so the NOx emissions are lowered.

You will note that the smaller hose derives from a part of the intake on the engine side of the air sensor. A leak in this hose will allow unmetered air into the intake and mess up your idle and mixture.

The large hose is indeed for an emissions component as others have said. The name given to it by the manual is the "Pulsed Secondary Air Injection (PAIR) System". It's purpose is "To reduce HC and CO emissions, this system draws in air into exhaust ports to accelerate oxidation, using vacuum generated by the exhaust pulsation in the exhaust manifold."

Here's the section of the manual dealing with that: http://htftp.offroadsz.com/marinhaker/programi/toyota/Engine/3VZ-E/78pulsedse.pdf

And here's the engine section of the manual for any other hose things you might want to look up: https://www.ether3al.com/93fsm-mobile/engine.html
