What kind of smart key ? AFAIK, 2020 smart keys are different pre-2020 limited smart keys.

 

I believe it is for 2020+ I honestly had no idea there was a difference. Here is the part number:

just for grins I went ahead and cracked open my original case for my 2019 and placed the module inside and it worked fine. Not sure what the difference is.

 

It won’t work for pre 2020 4runners. That fob you linked is designed to be used for keyless models, if it has a physical key it will not work as pre 2020 models still have an ignition switch. And by the way, you linked the fob for a 3rd gen (2016+) Tacoma. The only specific fobs MESO has made for the 4runners is not what you linked.

incorrect. Look at the list of vehicles it works for under the compatibility tab...and did I not say it was for the smart key?

 

Prior to 2020, only the limited used the smart key. But it’s a different foot print then the 2020 smart key.
