Does a 4Runner Need a Stock Roofrack to Add an Aftermarket Rack?

I am planning to buy a 4Runner within the next year and want to add a Gobi roof rack.

I previously had a truck that did not come with a roof rack. In order to add one, I would have needed to pull the roof apart and add the necessary supports in order to install anything on the roof. Had it come with the stock rack, I could have easily replaced it.

My question for you, is do I need to purchase a 4Runner with a stock roof rack if I plan to add an aftermarket roof rack, such as a Gobi? Or do the 5th Generation 4Runners come with the necessary supports?

The roof rack is standard on all 4runners. Youll be fine to get the gobi or any aftermarket roof rack. There isn’t really “supports” but mounting points.
