I just traded a 2014 FJ that I owned since new for a 2015 4Runner Limited with about 87K miles. The 4Runner was a one owner vehicle with no accident history. Looks like it saw a lot of gravel roads. The test drive was fine. A week after the deal I started getting a random clunking sound from the steering column (and I can feel it slightly too). There seems to be no correlation to driving conditions, speed, etc. I did a ride along with a dealer mechanic and he said it's a normal sound that's sometimes made from the intermediate steering shaft. My reaction is, bull. I'm not a mechanic but apparently an idiot for getting rid of a perfectly good FJ for this PITA. Any advice on a fix would be greatly appreciated.
