2020 TRD Offroad water leaks

So some butt plug forgot to insert another plug & this has been the problem? Wow, I am really sorry man. Did they give you the future problems would be fixed due to this in writing? With a new interior that would be my only concern.
Congratulations on the return of your T4R & I hope it is good as ever.
If you could please ask them to point out the plug so that we all can ensure that ours are fitting right. That would be greatly appreciated.

I didn’t know our 4runner cabs had a drain plug.

 

Hard to get a picture but it's the plug right above the frame rail under the driver side floor board.

 

Front or rear seat? Sorry if I missed that part. Glad you found the problem!

Yes glad they found the problem and it was not a body seam. Hope this is the end of it and you can start enjoying your ride.

How does the drain plug under the drivers side floorboard explain the wetness under your trunk mat?

 

I'm guessing the insulation under the carpet soaked up the water and spread throughout the cabin. Probably why they are completely replacing the carpet.

 

IMO, that just seems like a completely unrealistic amount of water taken in from a floorboard drain plug?

 

Condensation I'm assuming, haven't found anymore since removing mat and completely drying.

They are replacing the carpet because I asked Toyota Corporate to have it done since it's a brand new vehicle.

It wasn't much water, never puddled but wet nonetheless.

 

Any update?

 

Almost 3 months since they sealed that floorboard plug and no more issues with water since.

 

Google "carpet under floor mats holds water a long time" and you will get many hits. I just came across this thread and I know personally how long water will stay under a floor mat in a closed vehicle, it was my first thought when I started reading this. If you ever have your carpets shampooed make sure you do it on a hot sunny week, leave the mats out of the vehicle and open the windows when the vehicle is parked. This will allow the carpet to dry properly otherwise it can hold moisture for weeks and eventually the mold and mildew start especially if you live in an area that has humidity. I am thinking this is what happened but who knows. Glad it got fixed for you!

 

The car was brand new so the carpets wouldn't of been shampooed. The floor plan plug was leaking.

 

Oh, I thought they had cleaned and vacuumed the vehicle when you picked it up. I just purchased a TRD Pro and when I went to test drive one I could smell a slight sour smell in the truck so I checked under the mats and they were wet. This was a certified used 2018 with low mileage and they had just put it out on the lot so it had been through detail and the carpets were cleaned. I came back two days later and drove it again and it was still wet under the mats and the car smelled even worse. As soon as I returned from that test drive the white one in my avatar pic (a 2019) had just come in, which was the color I wanted, so I chose that one instead. Fortunately it didn't sit on the lot after detail so I was able to let the carpets dry. I do miss my TRD FJ, no carpets to deal with at all, but I love this new 4runner. Cheers!
