I just purchased the new Flowmaster FlowFX straight through exhaust. I couldn't find any reviews since it is a relatively new product. Has anyone installed this yet or heard it in person?

I suspect it will be loud based on the design (which I'm OK with given the sound in the video clip) and I like the fact that it will take up significantly less space underneath when compared to the stock muffler.

Haha I am willing to take the risk of it being too loud and having to take it off to sell it. Was hoping someone else dove in before me and had some real world feedback.

$344.95 plus free shipping, 409 SSTL & BLK Ceramic Coated TIP … definitely sounds like a great deal … listened to exhaust sound on vid, just not sure if I like it … Don’t forget to share thoughts & pics with us after install.

It's definitely worth a test given the price. I've had a couple V8 sports cars in the past that I miss so maybe I'm searching for a small reminder of what power sounded like...

Plus I don't daily drive my 4runner so if its too loud I can be more selective with when I decide to piss off my neighbors.

Flowmaster was one of my options as well as the gibson when I was looking for an exhaust but the flowmaster reminded me a bit of a honda civic. I ended up ordering from these guys instead, relatively new on the market as well. Has a nice tone similar to the trd exhaust, not as expensive and the built quality looks really good.

That remark product does sound good. Would def consider if I had found that during my search.

Man oh man, I really shouldn't post anything. They say that if you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all.

Coming from a background of high perf V8's, I really can't say I've ever heard a half-decent aftermarket exhaust for a V6. They all sound like 4 cylinder ricers. There must be something out there that sounds throatier...

Haha that’s why this mod has been delayed for me. I agree it’s hard to find a solid V6 exhaust which is why I’m willing to take a risk on this new one. My expectations aren’t high but for the price I’ll give it a shot.

I don't have any real issue with the stock set up, with the TuRD intake. Get it up in rpm's by red line and sounds fine. Plan on changing the mid-pipe in the future, but it's not annoying... Like the brakes (fml).

Say what you gotta say if some one takes it the wrong way then so be it

I'm a big old school muscle car fan, I hope to own a 1970 Chevelle SS one day either a 396 or 454 . I'm not expecting that out of a V6 but it's a decent improvement from the stock exhaust

I do think the gibson has the throatier sound from what I've heard in the market but the build quality and fitment looks really cheap. Which is why I went with the Remark exhaust, even though it's not as throaty the build quality looks pretty damn good especially when you look at the welds and it sounds better than the magnaflow, flowmaster and corsa but that's just my opinion.

Wish I could just delete the secondary cats like this owner in the video to achieve the sound I'm looking for but I live in California lol

If you want the sound an old school muscle car is the way to go! My real original paint and interior 1971 Buick GS with 4 speed, owned it so far 35 years!

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
That GS is gorgeous! I'm an older guy and grew up on muscle cars. Only my first car went pretty much unmodified because I just didn't have the money. The fastest and best sounding was my 1968 Chevelle with a 327 and true dual "Turbo" mufflers.
I think we can all agree that our V6's will never sound like a V8 but they can be improved. To me the Borla sounds best followed by the TRD. I don't like obnoxiously loud exhaust (any more) so putting on the Borla muffler turned out perfectly for me. To each his/her own, whatever makes you happy. This Flowmaster system would be too loud for me and I have a feeling it will drone but go for it! I had a Flowmaster muffler on my '93 Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 straight 6 and a lot of guys thought it was a V8. It sounded great but straight 6's sound different from V6's. Do what you like and that's all that matters.

Just installed the FlowFX. Here is a quick video I made to show how it sounds. It's loud (louder than a stock V8 AMG or V8 M3) and I honestly wouldn't keep it if I daily drove my 4Runner. Felt like I was 5 years old again with baseball cards in my bike spokes the first time I started it up...

Install was quick and easy (about 30 minutes) after removing the old exhaust. For the cost it's not bad and the muffler can be easily swapped out in the future given the design. Build quality is decent for that price point. Around town is where it's the loudest. Highway there is a little drone but honestly not as much as I was expecting.

I won't comment on the sound since its completely subjective... :poking:

Just an update after having this exhaust for a bit....

Any type of driving under 50 mph with any type of throttle is too loud inside the cabin (for my preference). I will likely be swapping out the muffler in the near future for something that is a little less extreme.

Try a Borla muffler. Nice tone, no drone at all. I installed the Borla 40665 and I'm happy with it. Post of install is here. https://www.4runners.com/threads/wh...h-gen-4runner-today.2261/page-189#post-103047

Did you ever change out the muffler? I just installed today and think it may be a bit too loud for my kid inside the cabin.

@Chodermuffin I didn’t end up changing it out...I just turn up my music.

I’ve actually gotten used to the volume and don’t mind it any more.
