    Hi everyone,
I am new to this. But I’ve been doing research on suspension lift kits. I narrow it down to 2 brands. Icon stage 3 with tubular upper control arm it goes up to 3.5in and the fox brand which can go up to 4in. I’m stuck on these two brands. Which one would you think would be best on my 4runner?

Either one you will be happy with.

But generally baddd things happen after 3" of lift unless you drop the cross member.

I wouldn't base the decision off of potential lift height. 2.5-3" is usually the highest you want to go; otherwise you get into drop bracket territory.
What all is included with each lift? You mention the Icon comes with control arms, but not if the Fox does - the control arms will help get you to an ideal alignment spec; but of course you could always buy arms separate too (if the Fox doesn't come with arms).

@eprince also consider with that much lift the ECGS Bushing replacement for the front needle bearing in the diff. The CV angles after 2.5" get a little wonky and the part tends to fail even on stock height suspensions. Good news, is once you've done it, it's good for like 400,000 miles.

I would also be curious to know where you are finding these kits. Both Icon and Fox have coilover rated to 0-3", but like mentioned above, taller than that you get into drop bracket territory.

Icon shocks have digressive valving and tend to ride on the stiffer side. Not horrible if you like that "sporty" feel. Fox is progressive and will ride much smoother, especially for mostly street driven vehicle. If you are looking for the best ride on the street and off-road, you may want to consider one of our stage kits with custom valved shocks. We install these all the time here at our shop:

Thank you all for the feed back. Because with my 4runner it is a daily drive. And I want it smooth. I’ve been hearing a lot that fox gets softer over the years. Is that true?

Coil springs can settle over time; but shocks will typically remain consistent. Unless they start to leak; but good quality shocks like Fox should give you at least a good 40,000 miles or more before needing any form maintenance or rebuild (depending on use). For just daily driving, they could very well last the life of the vehicle.

I would also highly recommend Accutune Offroad; they can provide guidance, and with most of the shocks they sell they’ll do a free custom tune to suit your setup and needs.

As long as they are kept in good shape they should not fade over the years.
