I am curious if any of you know of places other than Autotrader and Craigslist that might be good place to list my 2018 4runner ORP for sale? Also, any suggestions on where to get an idea of listing price with upgrades? First time looking at selling and kinda going at it blind. Considered trading it in, but I'm sure I'll get shafted. Thanks for the direction.

Technically modifications don’t add true value. That being said, “there’s an ass for every seat.” This forum, and others like it, may be the best place to market a vehicle like yours with upgrades. We all appreciate them and are general enthusiasts who may value those additions more than non-enthusiasts.

Have you done a pricing evaluation on any of the online sites such as NADA, KBB, Edmunds, etc.? That would be my first step...

Thanks for the info and appreciate the compliment. I've done some of the KBB research and etc and its given me an idea. I realize you never get back what you put into it, but thought maybe there were some "enthusiast" sites that might work better than the normal CL or trading it in options.

These forums can be the best place. I sold my 2013 Tacoma to a Tacomaworld member who was local, and happened to be shopping for the exact truck I was selling. He got a great truck, and I got a good sale price because he knew what to look for and what it was worth.

OP, enthusiasts or not, what you have is a situation where you'll sell it at a higher price due to someone paying cash, or you'll be stuck holding the bag because the black book price the dealer will give is within about 10% - 15% of what the bank will loan.

So let's say you have a $30k 4Runner, modded to $45k, and want to sell for $40k. No bank is loaning on that, so you'll need to find a cash buyer, or at least one who will put $10k down, and let the bank pick up the rest.

Another option, locate a buyer and have the dealership you'll buy your next vehicle from help. They call these "pass through deals" and usually will be willing to do the paperwork for $300 - $500 extra. That's worth it because:

    1. The bank will deal with the dealer, not a private sale.
    2. Paperwork is much easier.
    3. The buyer has a middle man and is less likely to feel like either you or them will flake.
    4. Paperwork. It's a bigger PITA than you think, especially if you sell to someone outside your state.

How many stock parts do you still have? I ran into this when I sold my Tacoma, much smaller market for 1st gens, but I ended up taking it mostly back to stock. I sold suspension and other bits separately and the truck ended up selling much quicker for nearly my original asking.

Take off mods and install stock parts. If you don’t have your stock parts, source them for cheap somewhere if you can. Sell all the mod parts separately.

I use Offer Up and Craigslist. Offer Up is a good place to sell your parts and vehicle nowadays. A lot of buying and selling traffic goes through it. I sold and bought quite a few things on there.

It looks great and should be easy to sell. Your mods look great from what I can see in the photo. If they are well documented and you’ve used good parts and they are properly installed, they won’t depreciate the value, imho. There’s a market for good clean, modded 4 Runners, that have the basic things that most would like anyway. An owner can sell a modded vehicle easier than a dealer, because you can document the history of the vehicle. Most owners have photos and videos of what they’ve done, and that personal connection makes a big difference in assuring prospective buyers of what they are getting for their money. Good luck!

Wow, all these are great ideas. I appreciate all the help. I have been looking at the Army Green Pro and doing a new build on that. My hesitation is I wish it more matte finish than shiny, but I love the upgraded features that are available now. Just getting my ducks in a row and figured this was the best place to get that started. Thank you all!

If there is nothing wrong with your 4runner... Just wrap that one in a matte OD green vinyl wrap. You could do that and add carplay for cheaper than the loss you will take if you sell and buy new. There is no other reason to get a pro over a ORP if you are lifting it either way.

Your 4runner looks great, you can get the vinyl wrap and a new radio and it will be better looking than most green pros. As i agree with you, the green they used is too shiny. Get the maestro unit with a new radio and have tire pressures, and more at your finger tips.

Basically finish building yours, instead of starting over, you will have a better ride and save money in the end.

Nice looking truck! I agree, I do love the silver. Was trying to buy a Cement Pro back before I bought the OFR, then and just couldn't track one down (and I really like the sunroof and the Cement Pro didn't have one). I just ordered several parts yesterday that are compatible with both, but leaning towards keeping this one. The dual zone climate control would be nice too have though, LOL.

If your idea was to trade or sell your 18 OR to get a Pro, just keep yours and make the changes you want. Not enough of a difference to make it worthwhile. When I was looking for mine, I was blown away at the amount of people trading their 19 for a 20.
