same color combo sr5. The only difference is a flat spot on the black grille (about 6 x 10 inches , guessing) . Don't really know the purpose.

RADAR IN RECTANGLE SECTION TO DETECT VEHICLES AHEAD. Used for dynamic cruise control and to slam on the brakes for you if you too busy looking at vertical videos on your blue book app. Havent got it to trigger yet in 700 miles. I am sure it will happen with crowded freeways in SOCAL. cars everywhere holyyy krap. You ask yourself where all these people come from?? CROWDED.ROADS.FROM 3 PM TO 6 PM. IN LOS ANGELES ALL DAY.

On the 17 corolla i did trigger it a few times it beeped and warned to hit brakes if some ahole cut in front of me like really close up front.

Wish it had a radar/laser detector off the ASsembly line OEM.

Yes TOYOTA SAFETY SENSE. THE RECTANGLE SECTION IS A RADAR

ONE OF THE COMPONENTS that is part of TOYOTA SAFETY SENSE. On other toyotas it is part of the round toyota.emblem logo.

Seems like toyota did not put much effort integrating the radar in the grill.

"Theyll buy it anyway" mentality from toyota.

Think about it... IN DENSE.FOG HOW IS THE CAMERA. ALONE GOING TO DETECT VEHICLES AHEAD. IT IS A RADAR. IT IS IN THE MANUAL.

If the radar camera behind the Toyota emblem in a Tacpma works why will it not work in a 4Runner? Thousands of Tacomas have the radar camera behind the emblem.

If it were behind the emblem, how would we turn our non TRD-Pro's into TRD Pro's. Toyota was thinking about us. :p

I personally don't think the rectangle looks bad. I mean if Mercedes can get away with it, so can Toyota.

Also if the emblem is also a radar, then you can't black it out or mod it safely.

I guess one of the reasons why the don’t hide it in the badge will be the trd pro!
The SR5 and Off Road share the same front end except the upper grill and of course the additional garnish. Hiding it in the badge would mean additional parts for the modular system.
I don’t mind the look, what really sucks is the cut off of the variety of aftermarket front bumpers, at least when the tss have to stay.

I was thinking to my myself that the radar rectangle is going to cost a bunch to replace after a rock flies up on the road and smashes it?

Hey, mrmike7189, you must have driven some of the roads that I drive on up here in Canada! Once you get beyond the small ribbon of population along the border, there’s a lot of cool places on gravel roads, just waiting for fancy technology and light bars mounted in winch bumpers. Haha.

Maybe the radar could be tuned to brake for flying bits of gravel? Or to shoot them down with plastic pellets. Will they detect a large feral ungulate?

Oldtoyotaguy, I live in New England (Massachusetts)spend summers in Vermont (Northeast Kingdom) on the Canada border, so I've seen some bad roads for sure.
The grille on the 4 runner will allow a lot of little rocks into the radiator area and that radar panel justs sticks out as a problem for the future.
