Welcome to the forum, can you post some pics. of the rest of chassis, or frame. I think you have a bit of a rust issue bigger than you might realize?

It does look rusty up there, for sure, but as you say, relative to the vehicle age, maybe not so bad. The southern guys on here will probably freak out, but for a northerner like me, who lives in a snow belt in central Ontario, Canada, it’s not necessarily bad. Especially if the rest of the vehicle is otherwise good. If you’re concerned about it, have the spring removed and the mounts inspected by a knowledgeable person. Before you do this, line up your options if you need to repair it. If they take off the springs and everything disintegrates, you’ll end up writing off the vehicle on the spot if you haven’t figured out how you want it repaired. Repair is something else. You can say that nothing is impossible if someone else is doing it for you, but there are practical limits. I’ve done a lot of rust repair when I was younger and couldn’t afford new vehicles, and my general approach was to find a solid body wreck, and cut out the part I needed and use it as an OEM part. That might work in this case if you can find a good wreck to cannablize.

Sorry Westman_Canada, I’ll have to defer to others with knowledge about that particular Gen. I’m guessing it’s welded though. Good luck! Ain’t rust a pain?

It's pictures like this that terrify me to take my beloved 4Runner north of the Mason/Dixon line. I think of rust as vehicle cancer. I would lose sleep if I thought my Runner was at risk of that happening. Yes, I am a Southerner if you can't tell. :hattip:

I wish you the best with your 4Runner.

Haha, don’t worry there are lots of them out there for sale. Up north, we just buy another one.
