2001 4Runner 188k miles needs new engine- Sad Day! I've only had it for 2 weeks.
I live in San Diego- anyone out there have advice on engine swap? I've called a bunch of wrecking yards and all the Engines I've found are 240k or more miles and not good Car Fax- and they are still $1500
A new engine will be $4-7k
I paid $5k for the car
What the heck should I do???
Newbie here and a girl- so feeling double whammied

Can't offer much advice for those year 4Runners but those prices seem a bit steep for such aged motors. Try having your boyfriend or husband or something call these junk yards? See if the prices magically drop when a male speaks over the phone.

I'm going to give you the best advice anyone is going to give you on this page. Knowing were you live and what is around there and what shops are there I'll leave you with this....

The Truck Shop. He is right by mirimar air base. He is going to be the only one you need to talk to. He is a Toyota and Lex. God.

Call and talk to James he is the owner. He will treat you right and not screw you over. There are so many places to find a good 3.4 with 100k on them if you know we're and how to look.

You are going to spend about 3500 or so to have an engine swap done plan on that. If you have this done the truck if all else is good will last you a long time. I'm sorry you got burned and I see it all the time at work( I work in a automotive shop). If you have any other questions pm me. I'll telling you though stop wasting you time and just called James.

Also why do you need an engine? If it doesn't have a hole in the block then I would fix what is wrong. If you threw a rod and the lower end is done then engine swap is the way to go. Pictures and a back story also help to help you.

I did a quick search and found a 97,000 mile engine out of Vegas for 1000.00. It is tested and ready to go and to be shipped. I hope this gives you hope
