What’s up, just wanted to see if there are any suggestions for giving my 2000 4Runner some more power. I eventually want to put some bigger tires and different rims but I was told i should give it some more power before, any thoughts?

    Supercharger is about all.

Koo , thanks for the response! Any specific one for daily driving as well as pulling a flatbed full of dirtbikes occasionally?
Maybe looking to spend Up to $1000. Then again not sure how much they start at so hit me with suggestions if you got any.

Supercharger kit will run $3500. Beyond that, you can do small things which will just improve gas mileage slightly. You won't notice any real power.

But hey, somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I looked on and off over the years and to get a real boost (50hp+) a supercharger was really the only option I saw.

I have never seen a turbo on one...that is usually a cheaper route.

Dang haha wasn’t expecting that price.. thank you for your response though!
I’m not looking to do crazy stuff to my 4Runner. Just good enough to pull some bikes, look dope and beginner type off-roading while out dirt bike riding.

If you need low end torque. You could regear it. It isn't cheap either but it would give the 4runner some better towing gears. It would also be of benefit to you if you want to run larger tires. As usual more would be needed to step up to a tire with a major size jump...
    My $0.02,

Yeah, modern engines are not cheap to add power to. It's not like the olden days when we could swap in a 4 barrel intake manifold, larger carb and add 30+ hp by noon.

The 4Runner is geared for torque anyways. I pulled Jet Skis all day long with mine. A couple of bikes won't stress it, nor will some slightly larger wheels.

Ive looked around and some say regearing just kind of brings the car back to the stock amount of power. True? If so, I’d rather save up more chips and do something a little better. Possibly the supercharger or turbo.
Any one know about putting in a programmer?

    Define power.

Re-gearing can improve torque which is the force that matters most when taking off from a dead stop....so towing and getting larger wheels spinning. This is at the expense of speed and mileage....or the benefit depending on which way you go with the gearing.

HP is not really affected. <- That can be a risky statement. lol.

It can make you feel the car has more "power" since it can accelerate in the low RPMs quicker due to increased torque.

Also, if you re-gear and change wheels, you will need to calculate how far off your speedo will be and compensate.

Programmers? They seem janky at best. So many more problems for little gain on an engine like this.

How big are you going with the wheels? Plenty of people throw on REASONABLE larger wheels/tires with some spacing and don't seem to complain about it. I would just do the wheels/tires and take it from there.

Who told you power was going to be an issue? A Honda Civic "tuner"? When you're driving a tin can, you need all the help you can get.

    Power as in torque.

Okay so I think my best bet is re gearing and bigger tires. Not sure how big i wanna go. Not anything stupid big lol just a descent size bigger than stock. Reasonable as you said.

Okay well then i wont do a programmer.

My uncle actually lol he just said bigger wheels, as well as tires will add more weight to the truck and with the stock torque/hp it has, I didn’t know if it would be a good idea to JUST get wheels and tires. Maybe adding some hp to it will just make it feel like a better/more comfortable drive
