Pulling the trigger on the Eibach kit

Alright guys, after the last few weeks of time and research, i've decided to pull the trigger and buy my first lift kit for my 4runner. Going with the Eibach Pro Truck Lift 2.75in front/1in in the rear. Will be doing the installation by myself. So any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! I'll be posting pre/post pics once finished.

The install is not that bad. Once I figured out the snap ring issue. It can be done about an hour per side.

*** Basic concept, do work at own risk and skill level. I am not a certified tech, nor did I stay at a Holiday inn express last night***

Get the truck up on stands
Pull tire
Loosen the ABS wire from UCA link (to gain extra slack)
Remove sway bar link
Loosen upper shock nut (center one)
Place Jack stand under wheel hub and Jack under lower ball joint
Remove the two bolts holding hub assembly to the lower control arm
Mark alignment sleeves and loosen the lower control arm bolts.
Lower jack/ lower control arm.
Once the spring is fully decompressed, remove lower shock bolt
Remove strut
Install new strut, torque lower strut mount
Lift the LCA back into position using the Jack to compress the spring
Torque the two lower ball joint bolts and LCA bolts (making sure alignment marks are in place)
Torque top shock nut
Install sway bar link and ABS line
Remove Jack and stand from under the hub/ lower ball joint
Mount wheel
Second side is the same.
Put rear up on stands and remove wheels (I kept the Jack under the diff)
Remove sway bar links
Remove upper shock nut
Place Jack under other side shock and lift until coil spring is free
Remove lower shock mount and spring
Install new spring
Install new shock, torque lower mount to spec
Lower jack ( hope spring staid in place)
Tighten top shock nut
Repeat on other side
Install sway bar links
Mount wheels.

Get truck alignment

I used 3 Jack stands and two jacks

Any difficulty using the spring compressors yourself? That usually seems to be the part that most people decide to just have a shop do the installation but it doesnt seem that difficult to me.

 

Impact gun makes life so much easier. I use an electric.

 

Looks like he did the "no spring compressor method" which is actually easier than using a spring compressor.

 

Check the no spring compressor method. That is the method I am going to use

Update: Ordered my kit this morning through Eibach. Currently out of stock but told me they restock May 1 so my kit will ship that following week. Also since i made my order now, i still got the sale price. Now all I can do is wait!

 

Know that feeling. It's worth it.

 

I ordered mine earlier this week. Salesman reports the b/o is due to the rear coil springs. He thought they’d be back in stock the last week of April/ first week of May.

 

Rep on the other forum is thinking 01May to get things back into production, but who knows with California politics.

 

This can help with the install side of things. (regardless of the brand)

If you assemble the struts yourself, just be careful with the alignment of the lower coil seat mount and lower bushing position so it's even with the LCA.

My kit finally came in yesterday! Now I just gotta get it installed.
