My son who turns twelve next week is working on his 98 4Runner. Great chance to learn. We replaced his tired steering wheel with one that a guy removed before his first oil change. It is the rubber mold version but it is cherry. Our issue is that there is a gaping hole on the driver side like a control stalk went there. Is there a cover plate or at least a rubber gasket that was meant to go there so we can at least cover it up some?

FYI...check with your local auto upholsterer, you can get the old wheel rewrapped in leather for about $200 usually.

I plan on doing mine. Also, if you had removed the leather, I think the rubber wheel underneath is the same as the grey rubber one you got as a replacement.

When the leather is removed, it's probably going to look as new or newer.

At least many auto wrapped wheels were done this way. Saves on trying to make 2 molds.

Can you find a dash piece in the same color and cut a piece out of it to fit?

My son thought it would be interesting to cut it and see. Pretty much the same....but there are mold holes and it is a yellowish green color from the adhesive.
