Anyone know how to deactivate the seatbelt chime? It's listed as an 'option', dealerships can deactivate them but none of my local ones will.
Before all the "just wear your seatbelt" comments, I do. I just dont put one on my dog, backpack, groceries or anything else on the front seat.

Well, the 5th gen is an old POS so chances are it’s just a contact switch in the buckle. Bust out an ohm meter and look to see if buckling it opens or closes the switch and rewire it accordingly. This option is probably 10-15 minutes and basically no cost.

Your other option is the Carista app with a Bluetooth dongle and a subscription (assuming seat belt chime is in fact an option). If that’s all your really wanting to change though I’d be more inclined to leave the passenger side buckled - no time, no cost, no effort.

Buy the Carista obdii dongle on Amazon and download the app from the App Store. It will allow you to change all the settings you see listed in the drivers manual.

there’s also a thread here somewhere that lists all the changes you can make (auto door locks, interior lighting, auto-off headlights, window settings, etc).

On my 4th gen I was able to disable the beeping through a sequence of turning on the ignition and holding the odometer button and buckling the seatbelt (I don't remember the exact order). There was a video on youtube if you google "disable seatbelt chime 4runner", I'm sure it will come up.
That being said I'm not sure if this is the same or would work on 5th gen.

    Good Luck

Start a club, I'll join. Might as well bubble-wrap the dog while I'm at it.

Anyone old enough to remember when there were NO seatbelts.
Don't know how many trips we made cross country with the kids in the back of the station wagon, playing with their toys/dolls/whatever, and not belted in....because there were no seatbelts.
    Amazing that we all survived.
Used to take dogs to dog shows and, you guessed it, dogs weren't belted in because....no belts in those days.
"Those were the days my friends, thought they would never end...……"

I may be old enough to recall the two piece belt. Lap, with optional shoulder.

Welp, dogs don't really have laps or shoulders. I could buckle the seatbelt over the dog anyway. That would ensure she would be cartwheeling through the windshield rather than just diving headfirst like a good girl. Should I try that?

Thanks, I'll look into carista. I don't wanna leave it buckled or use a bottle opener adapter. I think this will encourage my passengers to not wear a seatbelt as it's an extra step.

Carista worked great for me. Not sure what their “intro” subscription deal is but when I got mine it was free for a week. Then cancel and you don’t have to pay for the renewed subscription.

If that deal isn’t available anymore, it’s prob like $10 for a month or $40 for a year and then you cancel. Either way, cheaper then having a dealer do it.

Haven’t tried this, but what if you buckle the seatbelt first, then let Rover hop in?

My generation (Baby Boomers) is way cooler than all you young punks. We rode in cars with no seatbelts, ... in the front seat, ... standing up!
