is a 22r-e 2wd ecu different from a 4wd ecu?

Reason im asking is im still chasing my freak running problem after picking it up from the shop.

Im now thinking its ECU related only because my GTO would run funny sometimes and miss sometimes and putting new capacitors in its ECU seemed to clear up that problem, immediately

i am aware of that extra sensor on the 4wd thermostat housing that my 2wd does not have

Both my trucks are 1985 22r-e only the 4runner ecu reads 1 number different.

The 4runner also says its a denso refurb with the numbers 89661-35020

The 2wd looks to be a OEM toyota computer reading 89661 - 35010

    lemme know what you think

Just some thoughts that might spark some ideas.

My guess is that the 2x is going to have a little taller rear end ratio, and may have different trans ratios than the 4x due the absence of a transfer case. The ECU may or may not need to (or be able to) account for that difference.

Typically, any kind of reconditioned parts, the reconditioners only replace standard wear items and bad pieces. Parts that are still “within spec” at the time are left in (and will probably wear out or fail later). Probably best to pony up $$$$ for a new Toyota ECU from the dealer or $$$ for a new Denso unit (Denso builds OEM electronic parts for Toyota) from a parts place that caters to professional mechanics).

    Good luck.
