Victory 4x4 has a 10% off sale, but it’s related to tax season, not covid 19. A sale is a sale. The problem is that employees have to leave home to produce the goods, and that’s a problem for the foreseeable future if what you want is something that isn’t in an existing inventory. Now that I have all this spare time on my hands, I feel the same way, it would be a good time to order some gear and have something to do!

So your saying a gobi rack would now take 2.3 years to get made?

Haha, it depends how many workers are willing to fall on the covid sword, as well as infecting others, to make it. Who knows? We’ll see. Probably best to keep your money in the bank for an uncertain future, and let workers stay home and be safe.

Could be... if you were running a small business and just wanted to sell for cost just to keep your lights on and employees working it'd be a buyers market...

    This is a touchy subject..

It would feel shitty to benefit from what's going on right now.

But, spending money can help keep people employed. Maybe. And saving money on things you want to buy anyway just makes sense.

If anyone is dropping prices due to the current situation, it's because they want or need people to buy things to stay in business.

Right. I should have quoted your previous post.

I agree. I'm trying to get take-out from restaurants that I like to help keep them around.

So true, but it’s a contradictory message. When you spend money, someone is not staying home. It’s hard to see how this crisis will ever end if community transmission keeps recurring. It’s short term pain for long term gain.

One way a local eatery found to help their business, somewhat, is to sell some of their overstock of food supplies. We took them up on their offer of eggs, for example, and some other items off their list, since if they didn't get used they would be trashed.

This coming at a time when grocery stores have had no eggs, at times, on the shelves, among a lot of other things.

Exactly what I was thinking. A lot of small local businesses are staying open and running sales just to keep the lights on.

Not Runner related but I have been thinking about buying another bicycle for a while now. I am going to call my LBS tomorrow and see if I can order it over the phone. I know bike shops are exempt from the closures because some folks ONLY have a bicycle for transportation but I am guessing his business is slow right now.

    Surly Lowside.

Yeah I just pulled the chains on my other bikes, threw them into my new ultra sonic cleaner and then into a CrockPot full of melted wax. I am DONE with chain lube.

Something positive out of this self isolation.

I went big brand this time. Specialized Fuse Expert 29. Doesn't have the best build on it but it should be a fun machine. I traded in an old Trek Remedy 8

^ Nice! I too am a HT fan. With a Salsa Timberjack and I am looking forward to the Lowside. But I also purchased a Giant Trance E+1 which has full suspension. The rear shock has won over a part of my heart but...... can you say peddle strikes? Even pumped up I think the air shock is a bit too squishy for me and my ham fisted riding style. Once we are allowed out again I am going to look hard at replacing it with a coils shock with a HEAVY spring and lots of pre-load.

Here's the deal guys. Most of the shops that sell parts for our rigs are small businesses. If they have not been forced to shut down I bet they are just scraping by right now. I personally know two folks who have been laid off this week. They both wheel. Neither one of them will be buying anything for their rigs anytime soon. So, if you were planning to buy something for your rig, now would be a really good time to do it whether the shop has a sale going on or not. Odds are, they really need the business right now.

Agreed. However, to my point.. if i was a business owner.. id put my ego aside and say what is my actual operating cost? Offer a big time sale to bring the customers now and meet that operating cost rather then go for the big profit in an effort to keep the workers and business going.

Im looking at CBI currently.. i want both bumpers and sliders... but id like them to honor the 10% tax season sale i just missed by a week. If they meet me there I'm about to drop some big doll hairs.
