Bad CV angles

    Sorry for flooding the forum with my lift troubles but I have no prior experience so go easy on me :). As the title states, my CV angles are looking really bad after I lifted my 4runner 3 inches. I’ve driven about 100 miles on it hoping it would settle before I get an alignment but it’s still just as bad. I got a dobinson complete 3in set up and a diff drop.     That doesn't really look bad to me. I'm curious what is considered too much VS OK.

    I think if you've got the diff drop, it's gonna be fine. As above, seems pretty good.

    The 2nd picture I’m OK with not necessarily happy with it but the 1st picture (driver side) still makes me uneasy after what I’ve seen on the forums. The Toyota dealership that I had look over my work also said the angles where bad but they were comparing it factory specs so I don’t know how realistic their response was.

    I think that they're all going to be off from factory spec. The diff drop certainly should reduce the nastiness of the initial angle as you've seen. But it won't take it all out. Only so far you can drop the diff, I'm afraid. Not sure how much an alignment will change the angle, but alignments are always a good thing. :)

    I think you are more than 3".

    This is mine exactly at 3" hub to fender after lift. No diff drop either.

    I've never seen a 3 inch lift result in those virgin looking CV angles.
    Are you measuring CENTER hub to lower fender lip? 23 inches is widely considered 3 inches of front end lift.

    I also thought those look almost too good to be true for a 3inch lift but I know every 4runner is different so maybe he’s just did a better job than me lol

    You are fine.
    Remember, when you lift you are putting more stress on wearable items anyway so it is unlikely are you going to get factory life from front end components. Same with CV boots they will wearing faster even at 3 inches of lift or slightly under.
    I figure if I can get 100K from my boots while lifted I'd be stoked.
    Time will tell.
    My angles are about the same as yours and I am at 2.75 in the front.

    Makes sense.
    I'd say you are lifted closer to 2 inches, rather than 3. As 23 is the standard for 3 inches. Or so I've been told.

    So the general consensus is that as pictured, the cv angles are permissible but I should expect to replace the cv boots once or twice in the lifespan on of my 4runner?

    So 22 - 19 = 2" now because 23 is the standard?

    Do a hi-angle cv boot and boot slide mod. The hi angle cv boot works great by it self if you choose not to do the boot slide mod.

    Like I said I've been told more than once that 23 inches is about the max for these IFS Runners in the front which has been reported to be about 3 inches of lift. Whether you start at 19 or 20...23 seems to be around the max based on CV angles and free turning wheels at full droop.

    I agree 3" is the max before running into problems. But using a fixed # like 23 isnt in my opinion since none sit at the same height to being with.

    Custom scratches
    I just measured my stock 2020 4runner (hub to fender) and I'm at 19.5" fronts and 21.5" rear. I then measured my 2016 which was lifted and is 22" front and 23" rear.

    50k miles later with that lift and so far so good. My CV angles look about like yours.

    I apologize, I just realized the ones I posted are the factory replacement option, not the high angle boots, Marlin crawler does have high angle boots, but they are by phone order only. (my bad). The ones marlin crawler uses as well as the ones from offroad solutions will require you to utilize the Tri-lobe mount off your original boot, and put the high angle boot over that. So you will have to ruin the factory boots to use these, but very worth it.
