Best Jack/Stand Combo

    Looking to kit out my garage so I can do more maintenance & projects myself. What would y'all recommend as far as a setup? Currently running stock, but would like to go up ~3in in the future with 33s. I've been going over the following points:

    • Floor vs. bottle
    • Pretty sure I want to go heavier duty on the stands (6 ton)
    • max versatility
    • safety
    • good brand

    No idea if this is 'the best', but after my lift, tires, and added weight, I looked for something to get my 4R off the ground for regular maintenance, and decided on a pair of these: Powerbuilt 620471 6000lb, Unijack 6000Lb Unijack I like them because they're jackstands & bottle jacks in one unit. They're just about the right height for most things, but if you need/want more clearance once jacked, you may want something taller.

    What kind of maintenance? I can do oil, transfer and differential fluid without any jacks or ramps on stock height.
    If anything, get 4 equal height ramps.

    Personally I'd never recommend or trust the drive on ramps...

    I have 4, 3 ton Jack stands. And 4, 6 ton Jack stands, and a Daytona floor jack.

    The 3 ton stands I use on my wife's car, or anything small... Fully extended they won't hold my lifted 4runner up high enough to get the tires off the ground.

    The 6 ton stands work great though. I bought all 4 for under 100 bucks on Amazon.

    Ive got that Daytona jack and wished I bought it years ago. Got old using a chunk of 4x4 wood just to get the height for a truck

    Yea man I love it. Doesn't take much to get it lifted either. It's quick.

    I use pin-style stands. I don't like the ratchet style stands because the whole weight of the truck is on a relatively small catch and lever. But I'm a little paranoid when it comes to yanking on stuff under a car that's off the ground. These are the exact ones I have, 22 tons each. The pin is 1" OD tool steel :D

    Those look nice! My ratchet style stands have a thick pin that goes through them as well... They're dual locking.... Well the 6 ton are, not the 3 ton.

    They're heavy af. Something like 70 lbs each! If you look them up, they're actually for forklifts.

    I would rather have 4 drive on ramps than trust 4 jack stands.

    If you are talking about 4 permanent, anchored, drive on ramps, with room for tire chocks, sure.... 4 plastic mobile ramps... No way. They are not even allowed to be used in lots of shops, or in auto tech college because they are not as reliable. You also cant do tire work with drive on ramps. No changing tires, no rotations, no suspension work.... they are less useful. Im not saying i have never used them..... Im just saying i wouldnt buy them. If you are only changing oil... It might be OK.... I would still rather jack stands personally. But jack stands should have lock pins also, my 6 tons do.

    Ive been looking at these, man - look solid. 19" is what I can find for max height is this tall enough for standard 4R? Have KO2's but stock size (no lift). My other thought was the ProLift that max out at 23" tall. I do like the this pin type better though. Not as young and crazy as I use to be!

    I use the Sunex 10ton jack stands along with a Daytona 3ton long reach low profile rapid floor jack. The Sunex are perfect if you have a lift. IMO, Those ratchet style jack stands are risky on a heavy rig like a T4R. Especially with all the Harbor Freight jack stand failures and injuries going around. I wouldn’t risk any life with those type of ratcheting jack stands.

    I think they have 3 heights for the 10 ton stands, low, medium and high.

    I like these also, do you think the bottoms would be ok on an asphalt driveway? I'd try to avoid extreme hot days...learned years ago with motorcycle side stands to pay attention to the heat or to have a pad.

    Sunex also has the 22 ton (I know this overkill) but I like how compact they are and they have a solid square base.

    I've got a ProEagle jack coming (gift:bananadance:) and want to just start doing my own tire rotations. No lift, so trying to figure out if 19.7 inches of a jack stand will be enough.

    Will rotate front > back/back > front so trying to keep to two jack stands?

    Aware of Toyotas recommended jack points = (front middle back of skid plate ((or under the skid if removed, Ive got the Pro TRD skid plate )) and rear center pumpkin) and support points = front at frame where it angles in and rear diff axle.

    I haven't seen any great video showing where to jack and how to place stands to lift one side only? I guess jack from th recommended front point and place front jack stand then jack from rear and place rear jack stand so one side of the vehicles tires are off the ground at the same time. Any suggestions on that would be appreciated.

    Those look solid. I would definitely get those over any ratcheting jack stand. Sounds like the height will work for you but for others with lifts, probably not.

    My truck is lifted 2/1 and these stands will keep front or back wheels off the ground without issue.
