Hey Snickel Fritz, I'm not close to Victory, but I can make the expedition if I need something big that isn't easily shipped, like a bumper. The other shops are on the west coast, a long way from me, but they also have good aluminum parts. Aluminum rear bumpers are rare and the one from Coastal is an inexpensive kit, especially for US customers who benefit from the favourable exchange rate. Their tire mount doesn't need a camera relocate, so that's another advantage.
I like aluminum, because by the time you've geared up an overland vehicle it can get extremely heavy. It's not just about gas mileage either. It starts to handle poorly, and basically you've compromised the 4 Runner's high speed performance if you're not careful. Steel is rugged, sure, but you have to ask yourself if you really need steel armour, steel bumpers, and other components. My answer, for myself, is that I don't need steel. I'm pretty slow and cautious when I'm offroad. When I was young I had an epic breakdown and had to hike about 15 miles to the Alaska Highway in the Yukon, and it cost a fortune to recover the vehicle and I learned my lesson the hard way.
Will an aluminum bumper withstand a highway speed collision, or protect the front end of a 4 Runner from an animal impact? Probably not. Up here in Canada we have moose, and the real question is whether you even get to walk away afterwards at all. You can always buy another 4 Runner. The other thing is that the front air bag sensors are right there behind the bumper, and they should go off. If you hit a mule deer at 83mph, you know how expensive air bags are. On an older vehicle, they can be a reason for a write off by the insurance company even if it looks otherwise repairable.
My Victory bumper is mostly to hold my winch. I don't count on it as a bull bar.

 

Yeah, its great! It perfectly fits a Factor 55 Hawse fairlead. I ordered the Blitz without any hoops, because I wanted to retain the civilian look of the vehicle. Its my daily driver.

roof rack and uses a vacuum suction cup to secure it to the window. Mount RotoPax, quick fist mounts, etc., tons of options! Who would be interested?

 

I like that idea^ especially for rotopax gas, but I question the pressure the suction cup will put on the window when wheeling , seems like it could flex enough to pop the window.

 

I'm extremely impressed with these vacuum suction cups. There is really no movement once they are secured.

 

That might be part of the problem, to much stick, not enough give results in window being dislodged during flex?? I'll let someone else give their more technical/knowledgeable opinion

 

We are very close on a Blitz Bumper for the early 5th gens! It will be available in steel or aluminum, with or without a bull bar. I will have more pictures later today/next week!

How would it work with the trail bumper?

 

Nice! Hey Cam, how about a rear bumper for the 5th gens in aluminum. Exactly the same as your striker bumper, just lighter.

 

We will have to test fit on a Trail. I'm not sure how much farther the center section sticks out. Someone else mentioned that the Trail just has an additional piece and it is removable? Is that correct? I do not yet have experience with the Trail front end.

 

We do not have plans for an aluminum Strike rear currently. The structure and strength of steel are necessary for the leverage the swingouts and all of your gear. If we ever decided to make a non-swingout capable rear, I'm sure we would have an aluminum option.

 

Yeah the trail is just another bumper piece. Should be pretty simple I would think - just cut through that piece as well and will probably have to secure it possibly

Our Blitz Sliders are now available in aluminum! The aluminum version will have aluminum outer boat sides with additional gussets for strength and the legs and mounting plates will remain steel. They are available in bare metal (ready for coating) or in a two-stage zinc primer & powder coat finish. We have also updated the LED rock lights, making them smaller and even brighter!

Thank you! I will add both to the site. Aluminum about 20lbs each (boat) and steel about 48lbs each. The whole pair would be about 70lbs for Aluminum and 130lbs for Steel.
