I have a 2003 v6 4WD 4Runner and my air conditioner blows warm air. I replaced the clutch relay and checked the Freon level and it is good. On occasion the compressor will kick on and the air get cooler but when it shuts off it never seems to kick back on? I'm wondering if I have a faulty Freon pressure switch? I never get the flashing A/C light on the button either. Any ideas?

I'd say first thing is hose off your condenser. It might be packed with mud/sand/dirt/whatever.

Then I'd consider replacing your ac compressor.

Hose off the radiators anyway, you'd be surprised

Is the compressor coming on with no cold air? When it does work is the air cold like it should be?
The next time it will not engage check to see if you are getting power to the compressor. If you have power and the compressor is not engaging then the compressor is toast. If you do not have power then jump the pressure switch and see what happens. Let me know what you find.

A few things here and there. Still dreaming up stuff
After dealing with countless A/C issue in our own shop last year I'm guessing that you have a compressor issue bud. Why it is kicking off is the question. From what you said above, you have power to it, there is freon in the system, and it dose work some times. So with that being said I would start with a good shop and have them run a full A/C system check. I would guess around 100.00 or so. This is important because it there is carbon floating around in the A/C system because the clutch is bad when and if it smoked it's self that is an bigger issue and you will need an A/C condenser to fix it right.

Now you might just have a bad compressor or the clutch is 5150. Not a big deal. A/C machine will suck down the system, new parts go in( Might be a Compressor, Might need the Orfis tube, and expansion block/receiver dryer)system gets charged back up and your off and running, wife is happy, and your life is good once more. Now the bad new- This car run any were from 500.00-1,300 or more if done right. So take it some place that know A/C systems and have them run some testing on it so you know what is wrong and don't let some fly by night shop bull shit you.

    Hope it helps

I had it serviced and it seems I have a leak behind the dash. It works good now but will slowly leak down. I have a cracked dash and a recall letter to get it replaced so I figure when I schedule the dash replacement I'll have the coil replaced. Thanks for all the replies.

Ron You need a new evaporator and AC professionals. Cost for labor on that job is $800

You should get a new compressor too.

I have had AC problems with my 2005. It cools like Ice now after new evaporator and compressor.

Seriously. It's like new with all new AC components.

Get it fixed. It will cost you $1,200 at a top AC shop
    Parts at Amazon about $300.

This went in my 2005 4runner one month ago.
    Amazon.com: Denso 476-0040 A/C Evaporator Core: Automotive

    Cold as ice now! Really.
