5th gen stalled on incline

Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong section.

I am quite new to automatic transmissions and even newer to my 2012 4runner. Already love the thing and couldn't see myself driving anything else after a week of having it!

The other day, while coming out of an underground parking garage with a steep incline. While in drive, I let my foot off the brake and the truck rolled back approximately 6 feet before stuttering slightly and stalling.

I put it in park, and started it up just fine (albeit it took longer to turn over).

With my lack of understanding of these particular transmissions, I was wondering if it was possible that I did any damage or if it should be ok. Hoping the science behind fluidic coupling saved me!

No damage, just stalled at the torque converter. Drive as usual.

 

Nope autos roll back on hills... If you're new to them one thing you want to avoid is throwing it in and out of drive before fully stopping another words when your backing out of a parting space. Stop (or real close) before "throwing" it in D.

 

The runner rolls for sure! Way more than any truck I’ve had. Gas as you come off the brake

 

Why would you let it roll back SIX FEET?!

At least the newer ones have anti-roll, right?

 

'19s have HAC. I think they started putting that on all 4runners a few years ago.

 

on a steep grade how much gas in the tank?????????????? these do roll back on a grade even in my driveway not much of a slope but rolls back slowly in drive. my other vehicles V8 do not roll back.so the runner when it rolls slowly back in drive the brakes will come on and chatter and does roll.. but I never had stalls on my 2016 runner.. keep the gas 1/3tank and higher .. never below 1/3 .

 

Anyone ever experience a slight delay in transmission ? Seems like when starting after sitting 8hrs or so it drives fine under 25 mph but when you get onto higher mph there is a slight stall in that first push on the pedal … after that it never does it again until sitting another 8hrs or so.

Under 7k miles and first oil change coming up. Will mention issue if you guys think it's a problem ? Other than that, this truck has been perfect.

 

I have a 2019 TRD ORP that I bought new (under 20 miles on it when I bought it).
I have never experienced any delay in the transmission - I push the skinny pedal and I get acceleration without hesitation.
I let my vehicle sit for hours, days even, and have yet to experience any hesitations.

I haven't experienced significant roll back - if I'm not pressing the brake pedal, I'd be pushing the skinny pedal, just like I would do when driving my manual transmission vehicles.
