    4Runner Team
    I’m new to the community and I also recently bought me a 2018 4Runner TRD it has a spacer lift and it sits on 285/70/17R

    I’m trying to find the suspension lift that is right for me. I have looked at Toytec and other brands and can’t really make up my mind. it’s just not an easy decision to make. My vehicle will be an everyday driver and also taking the family off road for adventures

    so I’m asking if there’s a lift y’all would suggest?

    Welcome! Icon with its digressive valving will be good for on road and offroad applications. Spacer lifts shorten the life of your coils, best to not use em. You cant really go wrong with fox, king, ads, or icon. People will all have their preferences. Look at what your willing to do. Racing shocks have the best performance, but require a rebuild every 30k, meaning change o ring seals and replace oil. Think about what you are really willing to do. I love my fox’s with TC uppers.

    I muled between the Bilstein lift, fox 2.0’s and kings. I ended up going with the kings. By once cry once. ;)

    More like buy once cry repeatedly. Those Kings are going to need to be rebuilt every year or two. I was going to get Kings, but I didn't want to deal with the maintenance.

    Other than that, they are supposed to be as good as it gets.

    You drive 25k every year? lol. They require rebuilding every 25k-50k miles. Or when they start to leak, but it’s all based on your driving. But most people get over 50k out of them with pavement driving.

    if kings are the best of the best... but need to be rebuilt every 30k miles.. what makes them noticeably better/worth more then the others? Are the other brands only good for like 50k miles and supposed to be tossed since they cant be rebuilt?

    I’ve seen Kings and they are pricey

    Yes. Bought mine at the end of last January and I'm at 30K.

    I would have to rebuild them annually, or every other year if I was lucky.

    ahhh, yeah I average 50k every 4-5. However their rebuild time greatly varies on your style of driving. My coworker has Kong’s on his taco and after 40k miles no sign of needing a rebuild. 99.9% of his driving is freeway. I had billies on my taco and after the same mileage they’re close to rebuild/replacement.

    I've ran Bilstein, fox then just last year toytec on my 2019. They are all much better than stock. Based on test comparisons on the same lousy highway and then a wicked set of railroad tracks, toytec will not be on my shopping list as they handed poorly compare to fox/ Bilstein.
    My 2020? Eibach will be taking my money based on 100s of recommendations across forums

    I still think Kings are the best, if you can deal with the maintenance. The cost isn't that much when you consider how much money people dump into these things. If I get a second car in a few years, I would consider the upgrade.

    First, you have to decide on what suspension will fit your needs best. You've already tried the low end (spacers) and decided they weren't for you. Would you get your money's worth from a high end shock like King or ADS? If so, I would take a real hard look at either of those. Like mentioned above, these types of race shocks will need a rebuild at some point. You'll have to take them off your truck and either rebuild them yourself or take them somewhere. Your truck will be down during that time.

    Or maybe you're looking for a solid middle of the road suspension that will accommodate daily driving and weekend off-road adventures, while not breaking the bank. Bilstein 6112's and Eibach's Pro Truck kit are two examples that get excellent reviews with very little (if any) negative feedback. These incorporate coils that lift your truck higher as well as shocks that will last as long as you have the truck without needing new ones (more than likely). The Eibachs have a million mile warranty. Not sure about the Bilsteins.

    the 6112’s I had were close to needing replacement I don’t believe there’s such thing as a “lifetime” shock.

    They last more than 50k but yeah at around 75 k they should be tossed, where as kings, fox’s, icon, or ads can be reused and rebuilt and adjusted or tuned. When you rebuild a set of racing shocks, all you do is clean it, replace the seals, then fill it back up with oil, the process is super easy. But some people dont wanna do that, and you will want the one offs, they will not have the same ride quality of a racing shock, cant be tuned or rebuilt. That is the major difference.

    OP the Boss’s are a good entry level shock. Call Accutune, they will give you a professional response.

    I ran Bilstein 5100's for a long time on my 4Runner and they are still holding up fine. Many trips, only about 45k miles. A few accidental hops, lots of "bump it a little mores," towing, grocery gettin', you name it.

    I'd not hesitate to go back to them but I'm likely to try Eibachs cause I like variety.

    That's incorrect. If you spend the majority of the time on pavement or highway,you won't need to rebuild them every year.

    Just get bilstein 5100 and call it a day. They are as reliable as OEM shocks and even if they break,it's very inexpensive to replace them.

    *Every year OR TWO is what I said..

    The point is that Kings are Expensive to begin with, and require maintenance. Yes, they are probably the best shocks you can get for off-roading, but they're not the best option for most people.

    Based on your description I'd steer you in the direction of the Eibach Pro Lift.
    Simple, cost effective, zero maintenance, and all the reports of very good ride quality.
