I should have known I would get called out for that. I used a undercoat spray on them but not sure how it will hold up.

RSG were about $950 to my door and the holes in the plate looked bigger than the Shrockworks. I have a dog so the holes can’t be too big.

I don’t like dropping the tank for sure, but Shrockworks have been in the business a long time so I trust their design. I highly doubt any slider will fail. Dropping a gas tank that is almost empty can’t be that hard. I would think drilling a hole is harder. Stick nuts will probably be the bigger pain in the ass.

Shrockworks was one of the least expensive and cost is a big factor for me since I lost my ass on my Jeep when i traded it in.

They look great! I was just messing with you! How hard would they be to touch up?

@Thatbassguy, quick question, since you've installed these...when I was unbolting the Predator steps yesterday to deliver them to the buyer, I was looking at the DS frame rail. There's several KDSS line brackets on the outside of the frame - do all of those need to be unbolted from the frame, along with the small skid plate? I don't remember reading about that on the RSG installation instructions.

I'm not 100% positive, but I think we removed all of the bolts, and then re-installed them after the slider was in place. It was still pretty easy.

I don't remember removing any of those factory bolts. IIRC the RSG sliders bolted into existing threaded holes that were not being used.

One exception - one the the lines was slightly blocking one of the holes we needed to use. I unbolted the line and pressed up on it slightly with my jack in order to get the slider bolt in. Once in, I lowered the jack and the line flexed back down naturally and we re-installed that bolt.

Thanks, both of you. I have the driver side slider, but left it at work until the other one arrives. I know the RSG driver side slider has two separate mounting plates, and was just curious if either of them needed to slide behind a KDSS line.

I'm heading out to finally unload the 4runner from my Florida trip shortly. I'll take pictures of the mounting plates and the KDSS lines.

    @glwood54 ,

Here you can see that the forward mounting plate on the driver's side goes behind the kdss lines.

You can also see that my truck desperately needs a wash!

I'm taking care of that right now:)

Good to know, thank you. I assume the rear mounting plate doesn't do that?

I'm pretty sure both mounting plates have to slide between the frame and the hydraulic lines. For some reason I didn't get a picture of the rear plate, though.

It's really not difficult to do. You just have to remove a few bolts, slide in the mounting plates, and re-install the bolts and the additional bolts included with the sliders.

I sorta figured that, based on what I saw under there, but it's nice to have another's take on the process. I suppose once I have the slider here, next to the frame, it will be obvious which bolts need to be loosened. Did you reuse the line bracket bolts, or replace those with the supplied bolts?

I couldn't say for sure. I THINK I might have re-used them, but I'm not 100% sure. This was almost a year ago.

I'm glad they did, but does anyone know why Toyota put all those threaded holes in the frame?

    LOL! No problem!

I recommend doing the driver's side first, because the passenger side is a piece of cake.

I got distracted while I was under there because I saw some rust. I have to get under there soon and see if it's anything serious and figure out how to stop it.

I fluid filmed the frame and the mounting plates before installing them, but I planned on removing and re-installing them periodically to check on things. I might have to do it sooner than later.

Good luck with dealing with rust, that sucks. Living where I do, I've never had any rust, or spent any time on rust prevention.

    Thanks!

My last 4runner, an '03, all I ever did was run it through a gas station car wash every few weeks. The frame was rock solid after 12 years of neglect.

I'm hoping it's just some surface rust, but I'll have to keep a closer eye on it in the future.

Unfortunately, I seem to have hit a brick wall with the delivery of my passenger side slider. Both were shipped on 2/12, and the driver's side slider arrived 2/14. The other one seems to have disappeared, and I'm not getting any updates from UPS on its whereabouts...the latest tracking information today on the UPS site, newest to oldest:

In Transit 02/17/2020 9:49 A.M. Commerce City, CO, United States Arrival Scan
02/15/2020 1:38 A.M. Grand Junction, CO, United States Departure Scan
02/14/2020 4:54 P.M. Albuquerque, NM, United States - We've begun an investigation to locate the package.

02/12/2020 11:11 P.M. Commerce City, CO, United States Arrival Scan
02/12/2020 10:35 P.M. Englewood, CO, United States Departure Scan
Shipped 02/12/2020 9:43 P.M. Englewood, CO, United States Origin Scan

Label Created 02/12/2020 11:56 A.M. United States Order Processed: Ready for UPS

The We've begun an investigation to locate the package information on 2/14 was because I called UPS myself to see if they could initiate a tracer on the package, since on 2/14, the only thing showing was 02/12/2020 11:11 P.M. Commerce City, CO, United States Arrival Scan, and had remained that way from 2/12 - 2/14.

Saturday, the tracking information showed 02/15/2020 1:38 A.M. Grand Junction, CO, United States Departure Scan. Grand Junction? Really? That's not usually a stop a package makes on the way to Albuquerque. Then it shows In Transit 02/17/2020 9:49 A.M. Commerce City, CO, United States Arrival Scan on Monday 2/17, the place it started at on 2/12, and hasn't changed since...

I've got a feeling UPS has no idea where this slider is currently...

I just heard from Jason a few minutes ago, and he is going to see if they have one on hand to ship as a replacement. That would be very much appreciated if RSG could do that for my order!

Sorry for the rant. I try to be patient (I say that, but don't really...) but a two day transit now going on five, with no progress and no updated tracking information is testing what little patience I might have...hopefully RSG can get a replacement on the way...how do you lose a 50-60# box...?

Have you opened the box? I thought mine came in one box together.

EDIT : Or maybe not. I think I was mistaken

This sucks! I hope you get it figured out soon!

I have opened the box. It only contains the driver's side slider. I don't see how they could ship them together in one box due to the weight. The original tracking showed two pieces shipped on 2/12, only one arrived.

Yeah, best laid plans...what else sucks is the mounting hardware for both is in the box with the passenger side slider.
