Why did you pick the 4Runner?

Because it will survive Nuke blast and EMP and still run fine for more than thirty years after that...

 

Everything has been said except 8 air bags! Pretty safe. More is better for air bags. You take them for granted until they’re needed, and hope that you will never need them.

 

looks, capability and most importantly reliability. I decided that I was an SUV guy back around 1988. Had several Blazers and a Trailblazer over the years...my wife always drove Toyota products. finally one day, it occurred to me...I spent all my 'repair' time on one side of the garage, while on the other the only work I ever do is maintenance. Got it balanced out now

 

I couldn't buy a new FJ Cruiser, dammit. I'd have a new FJ if they were still on the lot. And I can't afford a G-Wagen, which would be the only other choice for what I need.

In 2004 when isuzu stopped selling SUVs in america it forced me to move on to Nissan pathfinders in 2010. When Nissan stopped making pathfinders for men in 2013, it forced me to move up to the 4runner in 2016.

Even tho it's more money I'm happy with the way it worked out. I always been happy with each make but each transition was definitely an upgrade.

 

Because I needed something that wouldn’t leave stranded in the snow. I came from a BMW 328i. It was fun but not really practical. I wanted something that was reliable, not terribly expensive to maintain and could hold everything for road trips. Plus I love the look of the 4Runner.

 

Not necessarily the reason I bought this one but it’s the reason I’ll buy another. Shared this pic before but we walked away from this

 

My Dad sold me my first 4runner in '01 or '02. It was a '94 SR5, 4×4, stick. It was my first ever non-POS vehicle. I didn't realize at the time how perfectly it suited my lifestyle. (Not my boat)



I bought my second in November 2005. 2003, SR5, V8. I put 177K on it with 0 problems other than maintenance. (Not my garage)



Then, I bought a Tacoma in early 2017. It was a great truck, but had a few drawbacks. This made me decide to go back to a 4runner. I made the move in January 2019.


1 year and 28K miles later, I regret nothing.

 

I wanted something to replace my modestly built 1986 FJ60 I sold this fall - I live where they salt the roads in the winter so I could never bring myself to drive my FJ60 in winter. After 20 years of ownership (2nd owner) it was still rust free.
The 5th gen 4Runner fit the bill. Sure wish I could have gotten a manual transmission though.

Thank you! The weather has been kinda cold and some snow/ice lately. I really need to get her out and drive her a bit. Sitting all winter is not good for them, IMO. At least she is indoors. Stays clean this way!!!!

yup, doing what it was designed to do, when god forbid, the worst happens. I love old vehicles, but sadly they’re unsafe compared to a vehicle like a 5th gen.

I bought the wife one in 2016, then I bought a Tacoma. Not the same. I bought an F150, and it was FAST. However, 2 wheel bearings, Transmission Shift Strategy software update cause of rough shifting, 2 IWEs, 3 check values for the 4x4 system, 3 recalls, and a strange rattling noise from the engine (18 months of ownership) reminded me why after 4 years, some gnarly offroad trips, scratches, and tough towing that the 4Runner was just fine, with 2x the miles and 2x the age of the F150.

So I bought another one. I should have just got a his and hers from the beginning.

Only problem, we built hers up so she gets all the compliments. One day my truck will be cool like hers....one day....

 

I downsized from a 2014 Platinum Tundra crewmax to a 2014 sr5 Tacoma Dblcab Prerunner due to going back to school and downsized from 15yr job. Big mistake … while the Taco's size was great for school, parking and saved on gas, the back seat is way to cramped for passengers. Trips to Vegas were very uncomfortable, even by myself. Went back to a full size Nissan Titan in 2017 (way cheaper than Tundra) but realized too many online people having problems with the new DI 5.6 engine, and rarely needed the bed or tow so instead of dreading some future problem went back to Toyota. Should of went straight to a 4Runner from the Tundra … not near as much of a downsize, and the back window still goes down.

 

I have always loved the 4R and I got a little tired of my Track Pack Mustang GT since it was a show car and I did more to keep it clean than drive it. Then my sons began getting into the Hiking/Camping/Fishing stuff (9 and 6) and I realized that I would rather do that with them and they hated the Mustang seating. So I sold the Mustang and bought a 4R TRD OF P and have started modding it for an eventual trip with them to the top of the mountains in CO. I want to show them something you cant just buy for a trip. Soon they will be too old to hang out with Dad and I don't want to miss this.

They grow up so fast...Great decision on your part!
On a side note, I love Mustangs. My buddy has a 2014 GT500. So fun! Just ridiculous!!! may do something like that at a later time. Great cars

 

Had a 13’ Tacoma. It got totaled. Wanted a capable vehicle to replace it. 4Runner fit the bill.

 

My first vehicle was a 4runner... at 15 I wasn't sure between truck or sports car. Looked at jeeps but something swayed my opinion to Toyota's and I'm not really sure what that was. It was narrowed down to a 1st gen mr2 or 1st gen 4runner... really couldn't find an mr2 worth buying, and ended up with a 4runner... it already had a winch and some old school steel bumpers.

I just remember looking at all the new models coming out as I grew up. Thinking how cool each new generation looked, and how much money I didn't have... i did move to a early 2nd gen for a bit. Now 20 years later i finally had the opportunity to buy something newer... so here we are in a 2017 pro. Man I miss my 87 tho.

 

Was shopping for small trucks for a while, we wanted something new and comfortable for long road trips with our doggies. Started with the Ranger, felt to small. Colorado seat nearly cut open the wife's leg. Never liked the Frontiers.

Went to test a Tacoma and felt a little stiff. Salesman asked if we have looked at a 4runner, never crossed my mind. Pulled on around, and before we left for a test drive, he rolled down the back window. Wife smiled. Bought our TRD ORP a week later.

Went in for TACO and left with the Runs....

 

I miss the taco. My family hated the seats in the truck. My family loves the seats and the space in the 4runner.

 

So I can spend money for mods
