I have a 2004 4Runner Sport V6 with 197k. I purchased it new in 2004. Currently my 4Runner needs...Head gasket on cylinder 6, two catalytic converters replaced to it will pass emissions. My local dealer wants around $5500 to do this work. Is it worth putting this kind of money into a 2004 4Runner? My worry is dumping this money into this vehicle then something else major goes wrong. Thanks

That's more than it is worth I believe. I usually draw the line at around 50% or so of the value.

I believe the head gasket job is a pain in the ass on these, but I think you need to get some more quotes because that seems ridiculous.

The cats alone are crazy expensive from a dealer I would call a local muffler shop and ask for a rough estimate
