Cant tell if my differential oil was changed

    I just bought a 2013 4 runner 4x4 with 111,000 miles on it. I was going to replace the oil in both diff's & Transfer case but when I pulled the bolts on the fill ports on all of them and stuck my pinky in about an inch and pulled it out both diffs and Transfer case oil were super clear. ( amber color) Im not sure how dirty this gets. Supposedly it was almost all long distance highway usage.

    Can I assume they have been changed somewhat recently? I assume it would look dirty! I don't think the girl I bought it from had any clue. She just took it in to the dealer and had a lot of oil changes done.

    Any feedback appreciated.

    LOOKS LIKE IT WAS CHANGED...OIL LOOKS GRAY DARK THEN CHANGE IT.

    If the rear had not been changed it would be blackish gray

    I would never assume the previous owner or dealer has done the right thing but that is me. To me, fluids are cheap

    Concur with changing it... Although I've never done it most people here claim it's as easy or even easier than an oil change so just do it if you have the know-how. Good that you got the fill nut off should remove it first before draining then finding out the fill nut won't budge.

    It's cheap to diy. Just do it and then you don't worry.

    many owners never check the drive train fluids .. you did the job all gearoil/transfercase fluids look good .. I replaced my rear diif oil @3K miles because it looked dark gray .. that is the break in of the gears .. NOW 3yrs of use all the gear oils look perfect..when I do my eng oil changes I check everything..still working perfectly no problems.

    your runner has 110K miles on it .. so bring to dealership this spring and have them drop the tranny pan and have them replace the tranny fluid.. tell them to clean up the pan and screen also.. typical tran fluid change is 120K mile..
    if this is not done,, around 170K miles the transmission will cause a shift shudder effect.torque converter gets a glaze fluid creating it.
