Hey guys, I am new to the site and just bought a 2002 4runner sport edition SR5. I have found plenty of information on the cosmetic differences of the sport edition. What I cannot find is the mechanical differences. It seems to me that the suspension and steering are much tighter than my 2004 Tacoma. Is it street tuned or something? Also although I know it’s the same 3.4 L V6 engine, it sure seems to get off the line and accelerate at speed as well or better than my Taco, and way better than any standard SR5 4runner that I’ve driven. Anybody know the deal?

I've never heard of a difference. I thought it was just a hood scoop and sticker package. I'd like to know if otherwise.

I read something about S-REAC or T-REAC Suspension somewhere but I can’t seem to find that thread. There’s got to be a difference. My friend who has a GEN3 SR5 got in my truck and couldn’t believe the difference either. Maybe the previous owner did some aftermarket stuff that I don’t know about.

If you have black Tokico shocks with the orange stripe...then probably not. If anything else, then yeah, they did something (at least the shocks).

Now, if you have a TRD sticker on the side of the car, some dealers I think installed suspension upgrades. But that's nothing to do with the "Sport Package".

Got it. Cool. Thanks for the reply. I knew about the cosmetic stuff but maybe the gear ratio is what I’m feeling. I’ll get under there and check out the shocks. I have all of the cars paperwork, I just need to go through it thoroughly and see if there’s been any thing extra curricular done to it.
