2018-19’s fuel pump may fail causing warning lights, may run rough, may stall out?

Toyota is recalling nearly 700,000 vehicles in the U.S. because the fuel pumps can fail and cause engines to stall. That can increase the risk of a crash.

The recall covers certain 2018 and 2019 Lexus LS 500, LC 500, RC 350, RC 300, GS 350, IS 300, ES 350, LX 570, GX 460, and RX 350 models. Also included are certain 2018 and 2019 Toyota 4Runner, Camry, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, and Tundra models. Some 2019 models also are affected including the Avalon and Corolla.

Toyota is still developing repairs. Owners will be notified by mail in mid-March.

I went outside last night, hours after bringing the 4runner home & I heard a clicking from the rear wheels. I thought it was my fuel pump. Cycled the engine on and off & it went away. Let me go listen now. This could get interesting!

That link says 18/19 runners. Not sure if its fuel pump but my 19 and now my 20 makes the same goofy noise. I hear it after its shut off, sometimes 5 or more minutes later?

It’s normal to hear noises/ticking up to 8 hours after you turn the truck off (or something like that). It mentions this in the owners manual if you’d like to learn more. Something about the fuel delivery system evap pump emissions check blah blah.

Basically, don’t be surprised if you hear noises a long time after you shut the truck off. It’s normal. Apparently.

And... Now I’m curious about the Toyota engineer that killed himself because of his boss and what this has to do with a 4runner fuel pump recall? They kinda leave us hanging on this one.

Also sometimes there's a gurgling type sound when taking the gas cap off believe I read here something about a mechanism for the fumes maybe or something like that?

I can't imagine they have everything uploaded to that site yet being such a new recall.

@4runningMan is Correct, the fuel pump running at weird times is normal, it is weird, but it it is a Fuel Emissions function.

Still early, yes....but so far it sounds like this affects 2019 4Runners. Haven't seen any 2018's on the recall list yet. Of course, that could change.

Checked my 2018 SR5P 4x4 and it was not listed either.

On the other site, the only people that were showing recalls were 2019 owners.

They must of made a switch somewhere near the end of 2018 or they updating the list from newer to older.

Sometimes they issue these mass recalls in batches. I assume because they can’t have 700,000 fuel pumps ready to go tomorrow.

How is it normal & my vehicle is on the recall list? Maybe the problem is bigger than they thought (like the airbags!)

@Dillusion Please don't tell me what is normal about my vehicle without any knowledge of what I heard or... as the matter of fact just ignore me because I am sick of you rambling on. Please don't quote or reply to my comment you troll.

They said owners won’t be noticed for a couple of months. If you don’t have the Toyota owners app, I’d get it...7473202F-782D-49EA-B9E1-9C00C680E64B.jpg

    Troll?

    1. When I quoted what you said there was nothing in there that stated you were on the recall list. I was simply replaying to what was quote and you posted.
    2. Here since you obviously think I'm trolling. So guess you just learned something.

So get off my nuts, ignore me or stop crying. Have a wonderful day.

Just downloaded it looks pretty good. Especially since I don't know if Toyota has my updated info when we moved.

Again, our vehicle is on the list of recalls. You want proof. Here! Screenshot_20200114-182133_Chrome.jpg
I bet the noise I heard was the fuel pump just running & burning itself out. Why if I cycle the engine did it go away. Why am I only now hearing it after 9 months of ownership?
Go find a bridge & leave me alone! You help no one here & have a major ego issue.
    Go get :help:.

I never doubted you were part of the recall.

Did you even read the link? I've heard mine once in the year I've had it. So it doesn't happen often. I bet some have never heard it at all before.

I don't help anyone? Sorry if I give shit where its needed. But I also give when needed also.
I'm also not the only one to say normal in this very thread. See below. Sorry you go butt hurt in a previous thread (which I don't remember but I guess you take the internet personally).

I have three nylon gas lines attached to my fuel rail on the Z28. A delivery hose, recirculation hose, and a vent hose. I have the ability to remove my injectors and fuel rail without opening any line and lay the assembly outside of the engine compartment onto the windshield without a drop of fuel. Ahead of its time!!!!

Just checked mine. Looks like it's not on there. I have a 2019... Maybe I got lucky... Hopefully I got lucky. After the shit I've dealt with when I last took my 4runner to the service department I'm hoping I never have to take it back.

I'll have to check my wife's 2019 Camry too... Apparently lots of Toyotas and Lexus are affected.
