Never owned a 4Runner until this week, was thinking another Tacoma, but then
    picked up a clean 2000 4Runner, 2wd, 2.7, 5 speed, 1 owner, 160k miles.
Really clean, all records, needs some interior tlc, couldn't pass it up for the price.
    It'll make a good run around/dog car....

Thanks, already started in on repairs/improvements, tires, new shocks. Picked up some interior parts from two donors being parted out while down in SoCal over Christmas.
Interior is the blue/grey moon mist color (code XX16), still looking for some nice front seats (standard, non-sport version) and complete passenger area carpet with rear heater, also blue/grey.
(photo isn't my car, just for reference) Also some misc small interior parts. Any leads appreciated, I'm in NorCal.

Yeah, moon mist reminds me of my first new Toyota pickup, 1992! White/blue cloth interior, no PS/AC, 5 speed, poverty spec.
Amazing what some cleaning and used parts can do, here's as bought front seat and with serious cleaning today it's looking civilized again inside.
Still need some donor parts to bring it all back.

    Nice!
My daughter wanted a Tacoma (1st gen like mine), but found a great deal on a '98 4Runner 3.4L Auto 4WD with low miles. It's a great truck.

    Now I want one.

More progress, picked up a nice set of take off steel wheels (look like near new) free off CL, new Michelin LTXs all around, KYB shocks, LBJs and alignment.

More minor repairs and maintenance, clutch spring bushings (will need new pedal/spring due to wear) Brake/Clutch and PS fluid changes, Trans/Diff oil change, Engine oil change and IAC cleaning.
None of the fluids looked overly old/dirty so must have had a few changes in the past, and all the old filters were oem Toyota. The more I dig into it the better it's looking....

    Nice 4runner.

If you are thinking about adding new struts/shocks stay with OEM. I ruined the ride in a 1995 GMC Jimmy by using non OEM struts/shocks.

4runners last forever. I have 150,000 miles on a 2005 V6 runner (purchased it new / original automatic tranny shift perfect still), and it never breaks down and leaves me stranded. Expect a new starter every 5 years. I've done 4 - all AM. All lasted 4 years and fail. Even the OEM. Starters are $100 at Amazon. Good as OEM.

We love our KYB shocks and coilovers. Slightly stiffer than stock, less nosedive on breaking and much more stable cornering. Plus about an inch of lift in front over oem height.

I'm running KYB gas on the 4Runner, prefer slightly stiffer ride since this will primarily be street driven. Same deal on my 1st gen Tacomas, and the KYBs have held up great. Last Tacoma went thru at least 2 sets, 150k+ miles, no issues.

Picked up a complete passenger compartment carpet section this week in moon mist from a clean 2000 4Runner SR5 (wrecked). So I can deal with the gaping hole in my carpet, very nice huh. Thinking section in just the drivers footwell since the rest of the carpet in my 4Runner is like new. Seam under the drivers seat, right behind the front mounting points.
