I have a 2001 4Runner. I've noticed lately that a lot of the 4Runner's and 4 door Tacoma's have what appears to be a think sticker on the back fender. Mines all faded and cracked. Were they meant for protection when climbing in the second row seats, or aesthetics? Can they be painted, or plasti dipped? I just purchased s a 2001 and it's clean as a whistle, but those things look bad. I want to replace them, take them off, or cover them. Also, can the trim that goes over the fender (see picture) be replaced, or painted? Looks like mine may have been gray like the vehicle, but have just lost their color and are white now. Any help with those two things would be great. Thanks!20191206_160824.jpg 20191206_161454.jpg with some type of paint. I've attached a picture. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like standard 3m type protection vinyl. Heat gun to remove. With the age of the vehicle, underlying paint may be different shade than rest of paint.

The paint is in really good condition, but I'd hate it to not match if I took them off. Can they be painted with Plasti Dip, or any conventional paint? Thanks!

Looks like just a sticker Personally I'd probably try to remove them and if you do not like the match get an automotive matching paint in a spray can tape off the area and try to feather it in.

Those were crystal clear from the factory. Just chip guards. I have had my 2002 4Runner since new. I still have them on and they are all pitted too.
