Since buying my 4Runner last June, the lowest/1st position of the blower switch hasn't worked. In my situation, root-cause was a bad blower switch resistor. I picked one up from my local Toyota dealer and swapped it out tonight.

    1. Remove glove compartment assembly (glove compartment and mount-bar)
    a. Pinch both sides of glove compartment so the tabs release the box from the I/P compartment. The box should flop down, giving you better access the the (3) mounting bar 10 mm fasteners.

    2. You'll see the resistor installed vertically, with (1) philips head fastener at top and bottom.

    3. Unplug and remove bad resistor. Once mine was removed, I took advantage of the access and vacuumed out a whole bunch of bugs, twigs, leaves, etc. etc. that collected in the intake area behind the resistor.

    4. Install new resistor and put everything back together - and enjoy ALL the speeds of your fantastic 3rd Gen 4Runner blower.
