I’m about to jump on the on the Toyota train. Been a jeepster and will not give up my cj but I need a new daily driver that is dependable, will last a long time but also be capable of taking me and family anywhere. I’ve come to the dilemma of which trim level. I’d like to go trd but cost is also a factor so I am also considering the sr5.

Local dealer has two I am debating on.

    2018 sr5 with 50,000 miles
2017 trd off road with 17,000

    price difference is about $5000.

Do I go for it and spend the extra $ for the kdss and suspension upgrades with lower mileage? Since I already have a 4X4 do I really need another?

Or do I stick with the less expensive, newer sr5 with more miles but nothing extra I don’t need?

Putting this into writing it seems silly to even ask. For $5000 I get a better off road vehicle, lower mileage and did I say the trd is a premium with sunroof?

Thoughts? I’ll introduce myself after my purchase!

The TRD Off Road suspension (shocks and springs) isn't any better than the SR5. If the TRD Off Road you are looking at has KDSS (not all of them do), some say it's a worthwhile feature and others say you're better off without it. Be sure to verify the KDSS is on the one you are looking at. I wouldn't trust a salesman's word on it.

That being said, the TRD Off Road does add other features that may be useful to you...rear locker, crawl control, multi terrain select. The manual lever for the transfer case is also a plus in my opinion.

    Good luck on your search!

I'm spit-balling here... but consider $2k of the $5k price difference as nothing but the difference between a 2017 vs 2018. You’ll get some of that back when/if you ever trade/sell.

With that out of the way... we have a price difference of $3k. I’d pay $3k more without hesitation for the additional 33k miles you’ll have in your pocket with the 2017. Bonus: it’s an Off-Road Premium with some very nice features that the SR5 doesn’t have (that originally cost almost $3k on the sticker).

If you can afford it, seems like a no-brainer to me. If you can’t, get the SR5 instead and you’ll be happy.

That’s just one opinion of many.

How much total price for the TRDOR we talking about.......I would be more concerned about a good deal on it rather than how it stacks up against the SR5.......33000 miles is roughly 2yrs of use.....

Welcome to the forum, and good luck on your purchase. I’ll pretty much echo what others said above; if it were me, I’d go with the 2027 TRDOR.

Welcome. You said you were looking for a daily driver so why not go with the 4r that has lower mileage? Plus some features that the sr5 does not offer.

    Good luck!!

    Welcome to the forum!

I love the off road goodies that came with the TRD package. I think you made the right choice.

Did you confirm whether the truck had KDSS? I was set on having it once I understood what it does.

    Looking forward to the pictures!

Used this forum to determine if it has KDSS. If you want to know anything about a 4Runner this is the place to be!

    no KDSS :(

but I’m still going through with the TRD ORP. Fewer miles, moonroof, heated leather seats, rear locker....

Hope to get it home before Xmas. Going to have it modified before I bring it home. I’ll post some pics!

It's still a great truck! I have an ORP as well and it's about as perfect as I can imagine.

    Congratulations on your new ride!

I just picked up my TRD OR and I love it, no KDSS since they tend to go out under 100k (from what I have heard in my cars circles, and read) and are expensive to fix. I am fine without it and love this truck!

I’m flying out tomorrow morning to pick up my 4runner!!!! So excited!!! Making a two day road trip with my daughter. Lifting along the way. More modifications to come. Going to keep it kinda “sleeper” and not looking to have it over the top 4x4. It’s going to be a daily driver as well as a recreational 4x4 on weekends.
A warn “hidden” winch mount, a warn winch, on board air and rock sliders. Don’t want to ding it up and I can’t always count on my buddies to have all the rescue equipment.

I used that switch the first time the other night driving in freezing snow, nice extra I didn't know about when I bought it.

I have heard the SofTex been labeled as vinyl. Toyota.com says it is synthetic leather. Either way all you need is a warm wet rag to wipe it down (after you remove large particles to not scratch the seat).

Congratulations on your ORP. I've got the '16 Trail Premium, same color. And like you, I won't give up my built '03 TJ.
Now this CJ that you mentioned, whats it got, because it makes my mind wander.
Is it a 5, 6, 7 or 8? But if not, no worries.
