Need help with acceleration issue.

Always been a Tacoma girl but needed more room so just got this 02 SR5 Sport Edition Black. Only has 89,000 on it and is in great condition. 1st automatic I have ever owned...not sure I like it but?? Anyway, I am also new to all the bells and whistles this truck has.
I am finding that very randomly, when you start off, the slip light comes on (sometimes, not always) and you don't have any power to wheels. If you let off the gas and then step on it again, you will go. As I said, this is very intermittent and random but dangerous if pulling out in to traffic. It does not matter if you tromp on it or gently push down the accelerator. I did ask at the dealer and was told, if the light isn't on all the time, it is ok. This is not normal but like I said, new to me so figured I would ask the guys in the know.
Of course I had to throw some Kelly Safari TSR's on it. No soccer mom here!

 

might be a sensor issue, theres no check engine light or any dash lights?

 

The slip indicator light will come on for a second on occasion but not always. There is no chance the tires are spinning to warrant it. Sometimes if you are turning and accelerating at the same time, you will hear the buzzing noise of the VSC/TRAC system. Throttle sensor maybe??

 

its certainly electrical if the tires are not spinning. i would take it in to toyota and see if they can scan for a faulty sensor, probably a vsc or abs sensor. when my abs sensor wasnt working it affected the vsc system as well

 

I would definitely take it to the dealer. If they fail to help you find a solution, consider doing the Andymod 2.0, which disables the TRAC and VSC systems via a toggle switch you control so you can turn it back on should you so choose.

I wondered about disabling that system. Never needed it before and not sure I like it. Any downside to disabling it?

 

Ok, I read through the pages and pages of info on disabling the TRAC and VAS yet leaving the ABS still active. Sounds like some were having trouble with shifting into 4wd. Do you need to switch the switch to disable this everytime you turn on the truck?
I live in NE Ohio and after reading all these stories, I am half afraid to drive in the snow with it! My Tacoma's never had any of this junk.

 

I believe you do need to activate the switch everytime you restart the truck. However, I do think there is a way to permanently disable it. I'm not sure where that thread is. I'll do some searching and update when I find it.
