The dealer I purchased my 4runner from Said without messing with the computers and voiding my warranty that I would not be able to do a 3 inch lift to my forerunner need to know any and all information you guys might have to steer me in the right direction

He lied. The dealer generally knows nothing outside what they want the customer to pay. Did he specify what computer?

He's likely wrong, since there's really nothing different (except maybe TSS) between later 5th gen years. I can't see TSS having any issues by sitting up a few inches higher but maybe I'm wrong and he's right.

I have over 40 mods done to my runner including a 3" lift and dealer just warranted my steering rake with no questions asked. They also warranted my rear seal on transfer case no problem.

Is your 4Runner the Pro? (Just going off your username) If so, I don't know of a company that currently makes a lift that's compatible with your suspension. You could take out the Fox stuff and go with an aftermarket suspension to raise the vehicle more, but I don't know if you want to get rid of the Fox stuff.

Toytec may be working on one. They have one for the Bilstein Pro lift.

Unless there’s a significant change in design on the 4R’s then any current suspension offering out there will work. The issue that the OP is referencing is the TSS computers and sensors that are now coming on the 2020 models.

I don’t have an answer on tue calibration of the computers and sensors on that system.

No change in the suspension that I'm aware of. I just know most people want to keep their Fox stuff on a Pro being as that is the major upgrade for getting a Pro. For example, Readylift offers a lift that can be used with the Pro suspension. Toytec offers a lift that can be used on the Bilstein 4Runner lift, just not the Fox stuff.

As far as the TSS system goes, we have been lifting Tundras and Tacomas since TSS has been available in 2018, and we haven't had to recalibrate anything. I just lifted a 2020 model 4Runner for a customer and another for one of our lot vehicles, and we did not recalibrate the TSS on it and it has not given us any issues.

With the pro suspension, it doesn’t offer any increased lift or clearance.

while it’s nice I don’t think I understand why someone would retain that suspension if they intend on lifting. There’s a lot of options out there but of course that comes with throwing $$ at it.

They just say that to cover their azzzez. So you do not come back and say "hey you said It would be covered no problem"

Common sense goes a long way... Dont take your 4 runner with 35s tires and expect to get tranny replaced under factory warranty because it over heated and blew because too cheap to regear the diffs. Or tires sticking out way past fenders a lot and expect wheel bearings to be covered.

It would be interesting to know more about where exactly the radar is pointed and how it’s calibrated for height, and how high it recognizes obstacles above the road...obviously speed bumps don’t trigger it. That being said, seems unlikely that three inches would make a difference when it has to account for all different heights of vehicles at various distances away.

Sounds like a cheap dealer. On that note, I probably wouldn’t want to service my car there, anyway. Not all dealerships use Toyota products in the service department, believe it or not.

Dealerships are a joke. Well, the vast majority of them are.

A good one is few and far between.

The best course of action is to educate yourself, learn everything you can about the vehicle. Work on it, wrench on it, crawl under it and see how things work and are interconnected. Get on forums and ask questions.

Then, when you go to the dealer, you can call them on their bullshit.

Toyota put out a bulletin that if you alter the suspension, the tss is not guaranteed to work correctly and thus you assume all liability. The person that altered it and the person that owns it. Our legal team told us to always advise people to not do it so we were not liable in any way either.

I’m sure you can pull a fuse ... I sell them not fix them. It will still not protect you for liability since you willingly deactivated safety features. It would also probably put on a check engine light on

And this is where I say what happened to being a defensive driver and paying attention. isn’t there a way to deactivate via a switch? We can disable VSC/TRAC with the push of a button at a stop.

Lifting the vehicle will not adversely affect the TSS in any way. Anyone that is familiar with basic radar function understands that radar projects in a cone unless Toyota spent big bucks on very expensive aerospace flat plane radar systems which is highly doubtful. Anyway, lifting the vehicle only causes the radar cone to project further out in front of the vehicle which would cause the radar controlled cruise control to react sooner than it would at stock height. This works the same with the auto braking feature. In summary, Toyota Dealers say you can’t lift because they are simply uneducated on how radar actually works. Basically, yes, you can lift your TSS equipped T4R without screwing up the TSS system.

This is exactly why I bought a 2019 instead of waiting for a 2020. I didn't want any part of that TSS crap. My wife has it on her Highlander and it has problems in the snow and heavy rain. Snow packs up on the front radar sensor while driving and the system lights up all kinds of warnings on your dash. Seems completely worthless to me.

The car I had before the 4Runner was a BMW that had all that crap on it, and I had totally forgotten what a nightmare any sort of snow or ice created for those systems.

You can deactivate them, but they turn back on once the vehicle is restarted.

I'm not sure I understand this line of thinking. If you hit something without TSS, you're liable. If you hit something with TSS, you're liable. What am I missing :notsure:
