Was browsing YouTube and stumbled across this video of a recovery service helping out a nicely equipped 4Runner out of a tough spot.

No judgement by me, as that guy looked like he had all the right equipment and just got high-centered.

Kudos to him for taking his rig in some pretty remote places.

There are a bunch of interesting videos by the same recovery company getting out some very stuck and some also not very stuck but not very bright folks.

I'm also completely shocked that the recovery vehicle doesn't have a winch of any sort on it. In all of the videos I've watched, he just relies on yanking people out with brute force.

All the driver had to do is hook up a strap to branch and pull it outta the way AND THEN CONTINUE ROUTE.

OK so props to the owner for obviously getting out and using the heck out of his rig. Before they did the recovery, as I looked at the situation, I thought the proper line was to the passenger side of the log, not over it. Once they got him unstuck, looks like they thought the same thing and it worked. However, I am not a fan of wheeling alone. I am not a fan of wheeling a broken rig (torn winch cable). I am not a fan of wheeling when I personally am broken (arm in sling). And I am definitely not a fan of the "lets see if I can make it over this log/rock/whatever when I already have multiple strikes against me. Not to mention, it might not have been the best idea to do all that with a kid with you. But everyone has their own tolerance for risk and potential problems and I am probably a bit conservative in that area.

    What did I miss?

I did not hear him say that. I did not see any damage to his rear bumper and from what I could tell, tow dude attached strap to his tow hitch just as he should have.

    Thanks for the clarification.

Was just funning that's all but he really did yank on the thing. I was also surprised what he showed up with as someone else stated.

There is a video the guy does that explains all the mods he's done to that little Jeep. The guy is a junkyard genius. The frame is incredibly beefed up, the axles and suspension are all beefed and custom, and he does mention that he will be adding a winch in the future. But the guy knows what he is doing and has some incredible skill and knowledge in the physics of stuck vehicles.

    The video of his mods:

He explains in the mods video that the flag is a legal requirement for being off-road in the park where he rescues people.

I wouldn't think it has to be on the front bumper though. We used to ride the dunes every weekend on our dirtbikes. Just had to have one didn't matter where you put it. I would usually stick mine out of my backpack
