Okay I have 1990 Toyota Hilux Surf that was imported here. It has 126,000 kilometers which is like 77k miles. Every time I start it up and accelerate, I hear what seems to be water/liquid moving around behind the dash, I only notice it when I accelerate.
    Something to note:
    -The heat doesn’t work
-I changed the coolant a week ago but the water sound was around before the coolant change
    -It’s a 2.0L regular gas engine code 3Y-E
-there is no liquid entering the passenger compartment

If anyone can please help, it will be greatly appreciated

It "sounds like" liquid or it IS liquid? Are you able to confirm that much?

On my old 2002 Camry I had the same noise.

It was the coolant circulating. It also had the dreaded head bolt issue causing coolant to leak into the cylinders. Would go away after bleeding the system but after driving it for a bit and loosing coolant I'm guessing the air in the system combined with the flow caused the noise.

Hello, Abdulnaser. I have the exact same issue in my '97 4Runner.

    - Only during heat settings
    - Heat DOES work
    - No leakage inside or outside car
    - Only on acceleration
    - AC works fine - VERY cold
    - NO overheating issues

Did you ever find out what was up?

Don't know about Abdulnaser, but I'm third owner on my truck, and can't imagine mine was flooded given the sweet operation of the other 99% of this car. Its a beast.

Pressure test your coolant system. This will reveal the location of the leak.

I have heard this as well I'm my 95 3.0, I'm still waiting on a knock sensor to arrive before diagnosing this sound though since I'll have the engine tore up to replace the sensor. I'll post anything I find but I'm already assuming it's because of a coolant leak I found when I got the truck. It only happens every couple weeks but I've learned to just refill my radiator when I hear it and it immediately goes away, normally it's only a couple cups of coolant that fits back in. No overheating, heat/ac fine, happens when the defrost is on on startup etc.
