Upper control arm bolt

Ok 2001 Toyota 4runner.

I'm trying to replace my bushing, going all poly. Anyways the upper control arm bolt is seized up in the tube that goes through the strut housing. So I cut out the bolt to get the upper control arm out.

Now I'm left with getting the rest of the bolt of the tube. It will not come out! I don't know what else to do from here. I have tried air hammer, propane torch, penetrating oil, twisting it with a pipe wrench(that just broke off the bolt more). I don't know what else to do. I don't have access to more heat. I really don't want to cut out the tube!

 

I had a hell of a time with my 05 Taco UCA bolt. Ended up just replacing the UCA. It may not be worth saving.

 

The UCA isn't the problem. I have tooken it out. The long bolt that hold the UCA is seize in place of the tube or sleeve. I have cut out the UCA. What's left is the remaining bolt in the sleeve. I can't get it out.

 

Hey man how did you end up solving this problem? I am having the issue attempting to remove the passenger side UCA, I think the bolt is bent from the collision that just happened.

I am going to cut the head off, but its not coming out of the tube at all while hammering it out. Thanks for any input ahead of time.

 

I had to replace my lower control arms (2) which came with two or three new bushings. You can find them at Amazon for "cheap" and had my shop install. Amazon checks out every part for my 2005 runner V6 before I buy it, and tells me its a perfect fit before I buy it. So far they haven't made a mistake and shipped me the wrong part. Much better than ebay.

I wouldn't recommend you buy anything but AM or OEM because these manufacturers have years of experience building this "stuff".

 

You may have to cut it berween the bushing and the tube ( on the bushing side) with a sawzall. Then get the control arm out.
The 2 piece left should come out easier that way. With the control arm out of thexway you should have room to pound....

 

Thirdgen, I think thats the route im going to take. I cut off the end which looks bent but still no movement. I am going to use an electric saw to cut the UCA bushings and remove it. It looks very tight but doable. Thanks for that method, ill post after attempting this tonight.

 

Once you get the control arm out you should have a straight shot at driving out that short section(s).

You mentioned a wreck...
Once you get your new bolt you can install it without the UCA to make sure the mount is still "linear". If so then I might Consider a new UCA just for good measure.
