Any home mods to make 285/70/17 fit?

Ballpark? = 32.2x10.8 = 32.7x11.2

Sidewall height will be a bit different as well. Not to mention variations in actual tire size from maker to maker. Like the chart I posted above shows, it might not be much but might be enough to cause mods to be necessary for proper fitment.

The amount of suspension lift does not affect if you can "fit" certain sized tires (if you off-road). it doesn't matter if you have a 4 inch lift, or no lift, the suspension height when fully compressed is identical. If you can't make a 285 fit with no lift, then even if you lift it they're going to rub the first time you take it off-road or hit a bump.

That said, you can fit 285's on these trucks with minimal work. Trim the mudflap, or take it off, and move the inner fender liner forward by taking the screws out, pushing it forward, and putting new screws threw the same holes.

I have 285/70/17 KO2 on stock suspension. No rubbing whatsoever. 2018 TRD Pro. Been driving for 4 days already, even reversing, speed bumps, etc. I am puzzled as everything I read stated it would rub. I have not taken it off road yet.

 

Not every 4runner is set up exactly the same as far as alignment, parts fit, etc. I've seen a handful of guys in the same boat as you are. Not to mention the difference in tire size from manufacturer to manufacturer. Heck, even tire size within a manufacturer can vary from load rating to load rating or model. Nitto mud grapplers are 32.99 in C rating and 33.15 in E rating. Not a huge difference, but imagine when you throw another company into the mix, lol.

The KO2s are some of the shorter/smaller tires at around 32.8" in height. Width doesn't seem to vary too awful much, but it does change a little, dependent on maker.

From what I've heard you probably shouldn't be surprised if it does rub when you go off road and start really articulating the suspension.

 

Interesting, 285s K02s on a stock suspension and no rub.

I have the same truck and also have 275 K02s, which came with a dealer-installed, 2 inch lift (spacers); it rubbed on the interior at full turn, in reverse. Nothing major, but the inner edge of the tire caught the inner wheel well. When I went to a 3-inch (Toytec Boss) lift, the rubbing went completely away. (It probably helped, too, that I put on Shrockworks's front bumper, which took away a lot of the front bumper.)

As a side note: I'm changing the suspension (again) to an ICON Stage 7 billet, with a secondary front shock. The tires are going from the 275 K02s to 295 Nittos (my shop talked me out of the 305s). Icon gives a 3.5 inch lift (I also have 1 1/4 inch spacers), so we will see if there are any rubbing issues at that size/suspension. ICON claims 33 inch tires will work with it, and the Nittos are slightly more than 33 inches.

 

I know I am beating a dead horse, but I have garage clearance issues, so I'm trying to limit ride height increases. I have a 2020 TRD ORP with TRD PRO 17X7 wheels. If I go with C rated BFG KO2 285 70 17s, where are the clearance issues going to occur. I can trim and move plastic, and l am open to a body mount chop. I could probably go up an inch and a half, but not much more. I heard that the lift isn't the most important part of clearance. If 285s are no go, would you recommend a good c rated 275? It's my daily driver and I'd like to light to moderate trails on occasion and a little snow in the winter. Thanks

 

I rode with 285/70-17 for a year with only 1.5" lift on my SR5. Fully loaded (6 people and a few bags of stuff) it compressed down to only about 1" lift. You can run the 275 tire on stock suspension usually.

I cut a little off the cab mount and pulled the oem mudflaps back with zipties. It only rubbed on sharp turns with suspension compressed but not a bad/hard rub. My wheels have more offset than yours so you should rub less. I also pulled liner forward in front of tire a little.

I ended up adding more lift and then using alignment to totally eliminate rub.

 

I believe you can run BFG KM2 All Terrain Tires in 275/70/17 with no lift. I believe you can also run BFG KO2 Mud Terrain Tires in 255/75/17 with no lift. You might not even need to trip the front bumper edge and you might be able to leave your front mud flaps on.

Both tires will look good on a stock Runner.
