2018 TRD Pro, why NOT spacers + rear coils?

    All,

    We all know spacers are generally bad for actual offroad use, as they don't increase the travel of the shock and can result in damaged shocks at full flex.

    That being said, AFAIK the 2018 Pro comes with what is essentially a 6112/5160 setup preset to 1" of lift in the front instead of being adjustable. So, if we are very happy with the handling of the suspension as it is, and wanted a net result of 2" over standard height all around, would there be any reason not to use a spacer in the front combined with taller, heavier, springs in the back to support gear (RTT, Fridge, tools)?

    Yes, if I dropped 3k on an OME BP-51 kit, it would probably ride nicer, but I'm not sure it's worth it if were not going to face the same wear and tear issues as spacers with standard shocks. Am I all jacked up on this?

    A spacer would limit the travel of the shock. I wouldn’t go this route. I know 1 inch doesn’t seem like a lot. I honestly don’t think unless you are seriously off-roading it will affect it that much. I’d think a better route would be to sell your suspension and use that money towards a different kit.

    I had spacers on my Jeep TJ. Never had a problem. Eventually pulled and sold the spacers and installed a bigger spring lift. I think I should have just stayed with the spacers. I am planning on spacers for my T4R as I am no longer interested in Black Diamond or 5 Star trails.

    I added 1" spacers to my TRD Pro, haven't had an issue yet. It'll probably explode one day, but so far so good.

    Yep. If your not gonna run the Rubicon, spacers can be just fine.

    That's what I've always heard about spacers. Maybe I just don't know enough about it, but I don't see how it would limit the travel on these shocks, since they are already designed for 2.5" of lift. Makes sense on stock shocks because you are going to bottom it out before you flex the whole spring, but I don't see that being the same here.

    Edit: Toytec sells their spacer/rear spring kit made just for the Bilstien pro's for $445, which is about the same cost as front and rear OME or Icon springs, which could be a better option.

    At this point I'm asking for curiosity really, I don't think we will be wheeling the wifes $45k 4Runner to hard.
