I have searched everywhere and have not yet found this specific problem anywhere. I have a 2000 4Runner, SR5, 4WD. The problem I will describe below is identical whether I use the dashboard controls, the key in the back door or the key fob. Here are all the details of the issue.

With the key in the ON position (regardless of engine running or not)

Trying to make the window go UP or DOWN with any of the methods, I observe the following behavior.

The window will move about 1/4 to 1/2 an inch and the back door brake light comes on while the window is moving for that brief moment then the window stops and the light goes off. By "pumping" the window with any method (dashboard switch, key or key fob) I can get it down or up but only if I assist it by pulling it up or pushing it down with my hand.

A related issue with the defroster. When I press the dashboard defrost button, the little orange light illuminates, the back door (center) brake light comes on (not the normal left/right brake lights). After about 5 seconds, the orange dashboard light goes off and the brake light goes off.

The rear wiper works fine as well as the door lock and the squirter. I have tried all the rear wiper tricks thinking it had something to do with that. No change in behavior.

So, it's weird that the center brake light comes on when the defrost or window up/down is activated.

I have no idea what this could be - any suggestions?

    Thanks!!!
