TRD Supercharger without a belt?

    Hey all,

Looking to purchase a 4runner from a craigslist seller, truck looks clean and it's up for a good price, especially for a 1-owner vehicle, and a Limited with a TRD supercharger to boot. Only problem, the charger has no belt on it. The owner claims it "works fine, just needs a belt". Personally, I'd need to buy a second 4runner to haul all the salt I'm taking that statement with.

From my (admittedly not extensive) knowledge of superchargers, that's far from ideal and nominal operation for the engine. I know the supercharger has bypass valves, but is there any risk of damage to engine components from running like this for an (as of yet, waiting on info) unspecified amount of time?

Also, what can I do to actually verify the supercharger is functioning? I've never owned a supercharged vehicle before and am unsure what to look for mechanically. I've seen some Tacoma posts advise someone with a similar issue to bring their own belt and install it on the spot to verify the supercharger runs, but without a proper ability to tension and install the thing I'm a little in the dark.

    Welcome to the forum.

All I hear in my head is RUN away fast.
    Craigslist is full of scams.

If you are set on it.
Have it towed, replace the belt & have it inspected. I don't think you will like the results though.
    Best of luck

    Just being honest.
    I am not a mechanic.
    Just my $0.02

There is a reason this guy didn't put a $20 belt on before he tried to sell it.
